If the basis and roots of democracy are shallow, then the strength, the stability and
the durability of an attempt at democracy will be problematic, and democracy itself
will be a precarious arrangement, a fragile agreement.
If we want to teach ourselves responsibility, then we must put responsibility into
practice. If we want to educate ourselves for citizenship in a democracy, then we
must exercise citizenship, we must enact and perform citizenship.
Being responsible is learning responsibility, and vice versa. |
