I have preached for years and years (to no avail) that the US is the only country irresponsible
enough to actually USE nukes - if any country should not have them because of a threat to

Ron Allen answers:
The history books tell us that Harry Truman justified his order to drop atomic bombs on
Hiroshima and Nagasaki because of a report that 500,000 U.S. troops would be lost in a
conventional invasion of Japan. Some 90% of the city of Hiroshima was destroyed, and some
70-80,000 people are thought to have died. As for Nagasaki, 40% of its buildings were
destroyed, about 39,000 people were killed, with about 25,000 others injured.
Who knows if the report Truman believed was accurate or honest?
It is one thing for military troops to be killed in battle; it is another for non-combatant civilians to
be killed.

Now I don't recommend disarming, any more than I suggest that others can't arm similarly,
because WE think THEY might do what WE did! Arguments like these show just what
hypocrites we can be. So sad.
Ron Allen answers:
There is so much sanctimony, hypocrisy, and dishonesty in U.S. approaches and attitudes to
foreign and domestic policies and practices.
