 Alfred Adler once wrote....
-Meanings are not determined by situations, but we determine ourselves by the meanings we give to situations. -

And he is so right. Just think about it.

too true, i have rid myself of some disturbing thoughts by noticing how i feel in a situation, and something it tells me about myself, that perhaps i didnt really want to know, or should have known, or was begging to be known....and if you notice it, you can validate it or fend it off so it doesnt keep on comin' back and messin' with things.

thank you for the quote

This is complex, but I think there is some truth here. The 'situations' I would deem as irrelevant up to a point (think of the mob). It is the self which gives us the meaning of life for ourselves. The question is, what is self? My answer would be something like this. That soul, which rises above the crowd and shows a light (also for the self) in the darkness. The crowd would be happy that there was light and that they were recognized and they could recognize each other.
