  • First Blog Ever!

This is my blog, my first blog.  And I guess in essence it is a journal, but then again, it's not.  A journal you usually write down thoughts and keep private, so there are some things that are discretionary here, which is a must for internet users :)  The wonderful thing about this, if it lasts forever (unlikely) this can be a place where I write down memories for my kids and instead of scrapbooking (yeah, who has time for that?) I can do this.  My plan is to scrapbook when I am a grandmother, when I have all the free time in the world??? hum...maybe not.

Just a short intro into the life of Rachael Irene Fulcher McCurdy Bedell....whew, lots of names means a past...

    Haha.

I was born in Montgomery, Alabama in 1974, the day after Christmas, and only a few hours after Christmas Day, so after all that labor my mother went through (drugless labor at that), she was a little disappointed I wasn't born on Christmas.  Nevertheless, I guess that's how God wanted it.  And I have always enjoyed it.  A lot of people make sad comments about my birthday like, "aw, you get jipped and get birthday/Christmas gifts." -or- "I bet everyone forgets your birthday."  I have always felt very blessed to have my birthday then.  I get to see all my family, and share a birthday with my cousin.  We always had a big family birthday party!  Our family is scattered, so we don't get to see each other too often, so I always thought having this birthday was awesome!

Anywho, I have two brothers, whom now I am close to, but not always.  I was a bully to them growing up.  Yes.  I admit it.  I was a heathen.  But now, I am an angel :)

My younger brother, Micah, is married to a beautiful, sweet Christian named Jessica and they live in Birmingham, Alabama.   My older brother Mac, also lives in Birmingham, handsome, single, and we are still waiting for him to marry :)

My parents have been married 39 years and live in Port St. Joe, Florida.  My dad is still a Methodist pastor, and my mom is a kindergarten teacher.

I have the most wonderful family.  Most of my family are Christ-followers, which makes for awesome, reliable relationships.  My grandparents are still married and in their 80's and I have figured out their "secret" to a lasting marriage.  One early morning while visiting them, I went into the kitchen and caught them holding hands and praying.  Oh my, that's it!!  After 9 years into a marriage that eventually failed, I realized that without God in the center of my marriage, nothing is gonna work in my life.  Unfortunately, I found out that tidbit too late, and my first marriage failed.  But having that knowledge now, I am confident in knowing that if God is in the center of my marriage, and everything else I do revolves around here, all things can be worked out.

Armed with this vital information, my husband and I try and stay true to that focus.  It's hard sometimes when we are angry with each other to pray together (that's the last thing you want to do), but try it!  If you're angry, and you pray together, somehow God jumps in the middle of you and pulls you both together and mends it.  It's an amazing thing.

I will talk more about my life later.  Right now I have to go tend to my 3-year-old who is constantly saying, "she's hungry!"  You would think I never fed her!
