| If only... |
How honest are you? About your feelings?
Are you shy to express them? Or do you insist upon letting them fly free?
Throughout my childhood and into adulthood I never, ever went to bed without kissing my parents. As I got older and my contact was more over the phone, I never ever put the phone down without telling them I love them. My mum told me she loved be too and my dad always said 'ditto'...Patrick Swayze must have nicked it from him.
9 months before she died - my mum gave me a card. It was a poem about a mother's love for a daughter and inside she wrote that her reason for living, was me.
When my parents separated my dad wrote to me and told me that no father could ever love their daughter more than the love he had his in heart for me.
Why I kept both of them is a mystery - I'm not generally a hoarder...but my mum died suddenly during a telephone call and my dad died suddenly whilst about to get out of his car.
They are VERY precious to me now.
I learnt a vital lesson - never leave anything unsaid. When I greet my friends I hug and kiss them - even if I saw them yesterday...and when I speak to them on the phone - I tell them that I love them. Randomly I will send them a text and tell them how special they are and that I love them. There is no shame in expressing your love...no cause for embarrassment...
I lost the two most important people in my life and I can say - hand on heart - I have no regrets. My nephews and niece now all know the extent of my love.
Are you open? Are you brave enough to say 'I love you'...Do you have any regrets for having left things unsaid?
