Bubba
I was reading a blog today and I didnt want to muddy up this persons blog with a war and peace comment.Truly a very heartfelt story on beliefs and prayer.Im glad I came across it.I left a little comment enough said.Reading this "nudged" me into a death that happened in the family recently.

Bubba, my other halfs Grandma. She had been in a nursing home for the past 10 years.Bubba was slowly loosing her memory.First she forgot who her grand kids were then later her 2 daughters.Five years ago was the last time she had been brought home for the Christmas holiday.Everyone is coming up to her, saying common pleasantries "nice to see you" and so on.She only remembered one of her grand kids.Aunt J's youngest son. When he was small to put it lightly he was a brat and she didnt much care for him(Bubba has always been grumpy)Cousin M says "Grandma do you know who I am"?She stares him down then says "I know you, your that little shit".He is now affectionally known as Bubbas favorite.

Anyhoo through the years her daughters visit her weekly.Would take her out for ice cream(she loved ice cream)Starting three years ago she didnt know who they were if they came alone. So, they made a point to come together.Eventually, she no longer knew them and would sleep through the visits. It was only a matter of time.

This past Christmas we were all together in Pittsburgh.Towards the end of our visit Aunt J came over to play cards (she loves card games). After we have played a few games of hand and foot.My other halfs Mom (G) mentions she needs to get their Mom some new shoes, shes thinking velcro.Aunt J says "No! I've been praying for Mother to go".It sounds morbid but we all broke out into laughter. To back up a bit.At their church their Bishop came to meet the parishners. And aparantly that had lead Aunt J to some extra praying.G says "what?oh no J".Aunt J replies "Well, since everyone was home for the holidays.I thought this would be the best time".You had to be there.

Since im not a praying person.I suppose the motto would be, be careful of what you ask for.Unfortunately Bubba past away January 11.She had a long life she lived to be 94.It is sad her last years were spent in silence. She left us with some very funny stories.I like to think of her as home now.Shes gone home and is about her business.Where ever she may be I hope they have lots of ice cream.
