My friend Rocio and I had started out as co workers and became fast friends.She's an awesome woman that hails from a violent past.Rocio is mexican though most people think she's Philippine.Her Mother and Father divorced when she was small,her Father stayed in Mexico her Mother brought herself and her children to the states.Her Mother was remarried.Rocio's step father was Columbian and hot headed.

Rocio had finished college and was home for a visit,her sister was there as well along with her infant son.Rocio's Mom had been trying to break free from her marriage for awhile.Her husband was abusive and showed her his upper hand daily.Her parents got into an argument,Rocio's Mom told him she was leaving him.He chased her Mom into the garage and pulled a shotgun out and shot her in the chest.Rocio and her sister heard the gunshot,went to the garage saw their step father standing over their Mother and he shot her again,in the head.Rocio's sister had the phone in her hand and 911 on the line.The step father points the gun at Rocio but doesn't fire.She runs to her Mothers side,theres nothing she can do.The police show up, her step father is arrested and charged,later convicted and incarcerated.And three adult children left Motherless.She has had to deal with the violent death of her Mother,witnessing it with her own eyes.Rocio will always have a piece of my heart,I dont know pain such as that.I am sickened that she or anyone else had to lay witness to something as horrific as seeing a parent murdered.

Before I got to know her I never could of imagined an atrocity such as that.She is kind,gentle,loving and trusting.Such a beautiful person inside and out.To this day its still hard for me to grasp that this is a part of her history.She didn't deserve this,her Mother didn't deserve this,neither her siblings nor does anyone else deserve this.Something so inhumane as this brought on by a so called human.

She's a fighter and a lover of life.Rocio could of given up,she didn't.Her Mothers murder doesn't define her,it is a tragedy she has had to live through and she has persevered.She deserves all the great things life has to offer and so much more.

I believe people are brought into our lives when we either need or are ready for them.When I met Rocio I had just gone through a divorce after 20 years of marriage.My life as I knew it would never be the same.Rocio was single,never married and 10 years younger than myself.Even through our differences we connected and she had become a pivitol person in my life.I adore her and her friendship she is truly a phenomenal human being.

My trials are nothing in comparison to hers.She would fuss at me if she heard me say that.So I will say it here.Rocio I cant fathom what you and your family have been through.It's sad one can't go back and undo a tragedy such as you suffered.My problems have been miniscule in comparison.I thank you for your strengh.

May you continue to take a bite out of life and enjoy the fruits of your labors.You are one of the good ones,may you always remain so.
