OK, readers warning before reading this: This could get political by the end.
Here goes.
I am sick of hearing 'I hate politics' and 'I don't even know who these people are'.
I am not blaming the media, in fact I'm embracing the way that the media has handled the election this time around.
I heard an interesting statistic not too long ago. "the more options that we are given, the more likely we are to do nothing."
This statistic was given for financial issues, but I believe it applies to more than that. The more I think about it, the more I believe that when we give a bunch of options, the less likely we are to make a decision.
I see this most often with my girlfriend. I give plenty of options, and get "I don't know" in response. I guess I can't blame her that much, I probably do the same thing.
The only thing that I can say about that, is at least she is going to vote...
I am also really disappointed with the constant misrepresentation of my age group (18-25). I keep hearing about how terrible we act, how little we know about the world and how much potential we have, and how the older generation is 'doomed' because of who we are.
Here's my challenge for this 'theory' that elders have. My generation (Y) has been relatively tame compaired to the 'roaring 60's' generation. We have been called to fight in a war, twice, and have not taken to the streets. This, to say the least, leaves our generation with a decently clean reputation.
I seem to remember that our 'elders' are the ones that are running the country at this point, and look at where we are now...
I guess I'm trying to say that it's not fair to have our generation slandered just to be a scapegoat for those who are truely to blame.
This country needs more than a change. There are many candidates offering complete change, but what we really need is something to shake the apple tree until all of the old and outdated apples fall out. We need a President and leadership in general, that will stop placing blame, and start taking responsibility for everything that has happened over the past 20 years.
I strongly believe that in order for this change to come and for our country to recover from all that has happened, we need to have the current generation start getting involved. Politics has traditionally been left to the old, dry and politically boring. More than involvement, there is nothing better than being informed and voting.
Voting gives the people a voice. When my generation doesn't vote, it takes away our right to speak out against everything that we are being accused of.
So, my best advice; VOTE DAMNIT! |

Vote? for what? the lesser of two evils? I'm tired of having to choose from the best that money can buy.
