Life has been a bit surreal this week. Last Saturday we had a freak thunderstorm with lightning, thunder, and sporadic rain showers. There were over 800 lightning strikes in our area, which sparked 130 fires. Rain in June is a bit unusual. I stood out on the deck and watched the lightning sizzle all across the valley. ( How smart was that?!) The thunder rattled the windows as well as my sense of equilibrium. They were cosmic gut busters!
The fallout from all this has been a week of smoke filled skies and fires all around us. Thankfully none are imminently threatening. When I say fallout I mean that literally as a layer of ash descends upon cars left out overnight. When you go outdooors you smell the smoke. My eyes sting and I sneeze a lot. I sometimes cannot see the city in the valley below us, sometimes it is hard to see across the little meadow to the treeline. It is dismal. The sun is red in the evening and everything a little eerie. It is all rather disquieting.
