John 3:16 Is Not A Guarantee
Literalism in the bible is silly. In the Old Testament, we are supposed to believe
that Methusaleh lived over 900 years and to also believe that Giants existed.
In the new testament, we are to believe that we can be murderous,
evil, dishonest turds and merely believe in Christ as Saviour and demand
our place in Heaven, per John 3:16. I'll admit, a close reading of it and
further explanations suggest that only accepting Christ as Saviour is
necessary to be saved. Fine. But, it is not a guarantee nor is it and exclusion.
The literalists look at John 3:16 like a heavy iron door guarded by a soldier.
In other words, if you aren't a Christian and also agree to John 3:16, you are
going to hell. If you are Christian, then God has no choice but to let you into Heaven.
HE PROMISED! Right? Well, that is arrogant. It has been and always will be up
to Christ who gets into heaven. Christ described Heaven like a
wedding banquet. It is the people hosting the wedding who decides who gets
into the wedding banquet...and just because you have an invitation, if you
act like an ass, you can be excluded at any time. OR, the groom or bride can
meet someone the day of the wedding and say, "Hey, come to my wedding!"
Other people may say, "Hey why were they invited??" But, in the end, it is
up to the host to say who gets in and who doesn't. OR, like a wedding, either
the bride or groom can cancel the wedding. IThe guests don't have any
say. Christ said heaven is like a wedding banquet. If so, John 3:16 is not a
guarantee of inclusion or exclusion. There are many crappy people who think
they are "saved" who may be surprised on Judgment Day.

Yes! We have to walk the walk and talk the talk with unconditional love in our hearts. We can't hide behind the mask of Christ and continue in hate. We must reflect the Sone! Thank you for your words.

Thanks for the comments...sorry if my tone is ever heavy...I consider my blogs "thoughts" in the spirits of
"thoughts.com", not facts, because this
is not "facts.com".

While I do believe in some literal interpretation of the bible, there are a number of metaphors, and you also have to put several texts together to get true meaning from some of the parts that are taken out of context.
While I don't have my bible in front of me right now, other portions of the bible make your point for you - it's not "once saved, always saved". God doesn't condone laziness in faith! Great post and good reminder.
