The Lord's Prayer says, "...Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done,
on Earth as it is in Heaven..." In short, God's will is not being done
here on Earth. In other words, ANOTHER will is in effect. Part of
that other will is OUR exercise of free will to control the environment, but
the remainder must be the laws of nature: chemistry, physics, geology,
etc. How long has Earth been on its own?? Well, if you believe creationists,
perhaps 7,000 years. At creation, God created all the life forms which you
see. BUT, why would he create so many?? And, if he did, meaning he wanted
them to exist, why do we have extinctions? The plain truth is either, God is a
myth--which I reject--or there is some reconciliation between evolution and God.
There is. It is simple, man has free will. It belongs to us and God cannot have
it back, even if we go to "hell". Earth is a place in which free will can truly be free.
It is like "Earth--The Game", God set the rules in motion, but the laws of nature
play out. If God tampered with the game, there would be no true free will.
Evolution is about survival. And survival is about making the right choices.
In other words. Evolution is about free will and the conflict of the free will of
one species against the free will of another species. The rejection of evolution
is actually the rejection of free will, and therefore against Christianity. In addition,
scientific comparisons between different strata layer in rock, the fossil record, and geologic
evidence point to evolution's truth. God gave us a brain. If our brain tells us that
evolution is true, God would not expect us to reject it. JESUS himself let Thomas
touch his wound and did not shy away from the truth. BUT, YOU ASK, if evolution
is true, why do we need God?? This is where I think the late Dr. Gene Scott had it
right, amazingly right: JESUS was the only credible person to ever claim he was God. So,
He was either right or He was wrong. He was either God or he was a man. Try reading
the Bible from the point of view that Jesus was just a man. Most people who read the
Bible assume Jesus was God and so they entirely miss how amazing were all the things
Jesus said. I promise, if you really read what Jesus said and construct a philosophy
of his teachings AND THEN compare what He was said to what people were actually living
like back then, THERE ARE ONLY TWO CONCLUSIONS. 1) He was either the
greatest genius of all time OR 2) He was God just like he said. Given his upbringing
in a carpenter's house and his lack of formal education, it is clear that the people who
were astonished in the Temple by his teaching were, in fact, treated to lessons given
by the Lord Most High.
