 Michael's First Jack
September 16, 1972

PHILADELPHIA, PA -- Kicking off a Hall-of-Fame career, Mike Schmidt hits his first career homer, giving the Phillies a 3-1 win over Montreal.  Playing in just his third major league game, Schmidt went deep off the Expos' Balor Moore in the seventh inning, the first of 548 career round-trippers.  Schmidt quickly became the Phils' regular third baseman but struggled mightily.  He hit .196 in his official rookie season of 1973 but rebounded the following year to hit .282 with 36 HR and 131 RBI.  In his 18-year career, Schmidt hit 30+ home runs a whopping 13 times.
