As I said before - I have been looking at the police academies in the Hampton Roads area where I will be living in Virginia. The Norfolk police department will not have an academy open until January 2009. But, the Suffolk police department will have one open in June instead of August, like I thought. I am going to start completing all the requirements. It's only 25 miles from where I will live. Not too shabby.
I have always wanted to be a cop. I was completely enamored with "The Commish"-

- a show which starred Michael Chiklis, now of "The Shield" and "Fantastic Four" fame. He's the big rock guy. Anyway - he used to be kinda chubby and he was the police commissioner (hence, the title) of a small town. And he was smart - way smart. And his sense of humor reminded me of my dad. My dad and I would always try to figure out who the killer was before the other one could. My memory tells me I kicked his butt numerous times. Dad's probably says I never beat him. But - "res ipsa loquitor."
See? I know my legal lingo. Or, at least - I know how to google "it is what it is" in latin.
Besides just thinking I would look hot in a uniform - I also think being a cop would be a great chance to help people - and minister in a different way. I have been challenged to be more practical in ministry lately. It's not all theology and spiritual ideas - it's about helping people. Jesus didn't just go around preaching at people. He helped them. He healed them. He fed them. He loved them. And I think this would be a chance to be more like Him.
Can you imagine Jesus as a cop? "Freeze! In the name of the Lord! - I mean, law!" That would be awesome. I think most people would throw up their hands in a different kind of surrender. Jesus wouldn't even need a gun. He could drop kick you with his mind. Or use the whole "lightning strike" thing. That would be pretty sweet to see.
I've got some more to say on the Jesus as a cop theme - but I will put it in a separate post...
