The Blood of Christ
Rev. 12:10-11 (NLT) Then I heard a loud voice shouting across the heavens, "It has happened at last—the salvation and power and kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ! For the Accuser has been thrown down to earth—the one who accused our brothers and sisters before our God day and night. [11] And they have defeated him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of their testimony. And they were not afraid to die.
Death is something we do not like to think about but “as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment”.
Blood is a specialized bodily fluid that delivers necessary substances to the body's cells — such as nutrients and oxygen — and transports waste products away from those same cells.
In vertebrates, it is composed of blood cells suspended in a liquid called blood plasma. Plasma, which comprises 55% of blood fluid, is mostly water (90% by volume),[1] and contains dissolved proteins, glucose, mineral ions, hormones, carbon dioxide (plasma being the main medium for excretory product transportation), platelets and blood cells themselves. The blood cells present in blood are mainly red blood cells (also called RBCs or erythrocytes) and white blood cells, including leukocytes and platelets. The most abundant cells in vertebrate blood are red blood cells. These contain hemoglobin, an iron-containing protein, which facilitates transportation of oxygen by reversibly binding to this respiratory gas and greatly increasing its solubility in blood. In contrast, carbon dioxide is almost entirely transported extracellularly dissolved in plasma as bicarbonate ion.(Wikipedia)
1. The blood carries the life-
a. Leviticus 17:10-11 (NLT)
b. "And I will turn against anyone, whether an Israelite or a foreigner living among you, who eats or drinks blood in any form. I will cut off such a person from the community, [11] for the life of any creature is in its blood. I have given you the blood so you can make atonement for your sins. It is the blood, representing life, that brings you atonement.
c. We find life in the blood and we can see that giving blood to a person can keep that person alive.
d. It is the blood that carries disease for we know that some times people need a blood transfusion.
e. Over time, the red blood cells get worn out and eventually die. The average life cycle of a red blood cell is 120 days
f. I think about how the blood of Able cried out to God after his brother had killed him. Gen. 4:10- that word “blood” is plural in the Hebrew and may refer to his bloodline that was stopped because of his premature death.
2. Blood takes us into the holy place-
a. Hebrews 10:19-20 (NLT)
b. And so, dear brothers and sisters, we can boldly enter heaven's Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus. [20] This is the new, life-giving way that Christ has opened up for us through the sacred curtain, by means of his death for us.
c. Because there was a price paid, that was the blood, we can go to God and not be afraid.
d. In the Old Testament the High priest would offer a sacrifice and sprinkle the blood on all the vessels and was able to enter the Holy of Holies. Jesus’ blood allows us to go into the Holy of Holies without being afraid to die.
i. Moses put the blood on Aaron’s right ear lobe, right thumb, and right toe.-Lev.8:23
e. I think about the story of Israel, when they were in Egypt and the Lord told them to put the blood on the door post and when the destroyer passed by he will see the blood and will pass over, this is a sign . Exo. 12:12-13
3. The blood identifies you with Christ
a. John 6:47-56 (NLT) "I assure you, anyone who believes in me already has eternal life. [48] Yes, I am the bread of life! [49] Your ancestors ate manna in the wilderness, but they all died. [50] However, the bread from heaven gives eternal life to everyone who eats it. [51] I am the living bread that came down out of heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will live forever; this bread is my flesh, offered so the world may live." [52] Then the people began arguing with each other about what he meant. "How can this man give us his flesh to eat?" they asked. [53] So Jesus said again, "I assure you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you cannot have eternal life within you. [54] But those who eat my flesh and drink my blood have eternal life, and I will raise them at the last day. [55] For my flesh is the true food, and my blood is the true drink. [56] All who eat my flesh and drink my blood remain in me, and I in them.
b. We are called to drink the blood of Christ so we can identify with him every time we take communion –Luke 22:19-20
c. I think about our Lord how he shed His blood for our sins while on the cross His blood was shed for our sins so we can be forgiven for ever. At the cross two criminals were crucified, one on his left and right- one blasphemed Him and the other rebuked him saying “don’t you fear God.. we are guilty but this man did nothing wrong. He said to Jesus”, Lord remember me when you come into your kingdom” Jesus said to him. Today you will be with me in paradise. Luke 23”39-43
If there is no blood there is no forgiveness of sin
Hebrews 9:22 (NLT)
In fact, we can say that according to the law of Moses, nearly everything was purified by sprinkling with blood. Without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness of sins.
