 Life in the Spirit
Life in the Spirit
Galatians 5:16-18 (NLT)
So I advise you to live according to your new life in the Holy Spirit. Then you won't be doing what your sinful nature craves. [17] The old sinful nature loves to do evil, which is just opposite from what the Holy Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are opposite from what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, and your choices are never free from this conflict. [18] But when you are directed by the Holy Spirit, you are no longer subject to the law.

1. Walking in the spirit
a. Galatians 5:25 (NLT)
b. If we are living now by the Holy Spirit, let us follow the Holy Spirit's leading in every part of our lives.
c. Every part of our life should be directed by the Spirit
d. To walk in the Spirit means to follow right behind in his steps, step by step
e. The word walk implies progress. It pictures a day-by-day, step-by- step existence in which a Christian yields each moment of his life to the control of the Holy Spirit. That's the key to holiness. Since every Christian possesses the Holy Spirit (Rom. 8:9), we need to submit to Him, allowing Him to control our lives. Although that sounds easy to do, it's really not-Walking by the Spirit--Part 1 by John MacArthur
f. I think about the story of Elijah and his servant how the only way to see what was going on was by being in the Spirit.
i. 2 Kings 6:15 (NLT)
ii. When the servant of the man of God got up early the next morning and went outside, there were troops, horses, and chariots everywhere.
iii. "Ah, my lord, what will we do now?" he cried out to Elisha.
iv. Oh pastor what do we do now?
2. Outside the Spirit is the flesh
a. Galatians 5:22 (NLT)
b. But when the Holy Spirit controls our lives, he will produce this kind of fruit in us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
c. The bible says that any action not done in faith is what
i. Romans 14:23 (NLT)
ii. But if people have doubts about whether they should eat something, they shouldn't eat it. They would be condemned for not acting in faith before God. If you do anything you believe is not right, you are sinning.
a) The source of human weakness
Flesh is used in a theological sense to refer to the part of man that is easily attacked by temptation and susceptible to sin.
d. I think about the life of Judas how he walked with Jesus but only in the flesh and not in the spirit. John 13:26-27 (NLT) Jesus said, "It is the one to whom I give the bread dipped in the sauce." And when he had dipped it, he gave it to Judas, son of Simon Iscariot. [27] As soon as Judas had eaten the bread, Satan entered into him. Then Jesus told him, "Hurry. Do it now."
3. The harvest of the spirit
a. Galatians 6:8 (NLT)
b. Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful desires will harvest the consequences of decay and death. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit.
c. The field that we harvest is a spiritual field and only by the spirit can we have a harvest.
d. We have to understand that God knows what we need before we ask him
i. Matthew 6:8 (NLT)
ii. Don't be like them, because your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him!
iii. Isaiah 65:24 (NLT)
iv. I will answer them before they even call to me. While they are still talking to me about their needs, I will go ahead and answer their prayers!
e. I think about the life of Mary, how she knew where to find Jesus and went into the house and anointed Jesus with oil. Luke 7:46 (NLT) “You neglected the courtesy of olive oil to anoint my head, but she has anointed my feet with rare perfume.”
Fish- a school of fish,
Ants- a colony, army, state of ants
Baboons- a troop of baboons
Beavers-Colony, family of beavers
Buffalo- herd, gang, obstinacy of buffalos
Camels-Caravan, flock, train of camels
Crocodiles-a congregation, nest of crocodiles
Vultures- a committee of Vultures

Are you living in the spirit or in the flesh?
Galatians 3:3 (NLT)
Have you lost your senses? After starting your Christian lives in the Spirit, why are you now trying to become perfect by your own human effort?
