His promises He will keep
Genesis 18:19 (NLT)
I have singled him out so that he will direct his sons and their families to keep the way of the Lord and do what is right and just. Then I will do for him all that I have promised."
Do you have a dream? Has God promised you something and you feel like giving up because it has been a long time?
1. Can God do it?
a. Genesis 18:13-14 (NLT) Then the Lord said to Abraham, "Why did Sarah laugh? Why did she say, 'Can an old woman like me have a baby?' [14] Is anything too hard for the Lord? About a year from now, just as I told you, I will return, and Sarah will have a son."
b. God speaks a promise to you then he arranges all things to work out for you.
i. Romans 8:28 (NLT) And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.
ii. When God is working out the promise in your life, it is not the way you would do but it is His way.
iii. Abraham thought that God would keep the promise through Ishmael when he said “may Ishmael live under our special blessing!” Gen. 17:18
c. My God is able to take care of me even in hard times.
d. I think about the promise the Lord made to Noah, when He said that he would not destroy the earth with rain any more. So he put a rainbow in the sky to remind Himself and us that He would keep His promise. Gen. 9:12-17
2. Is anything to hard for the Lord to do?
a. Jeremiah 32:27 (NLT) "I am the Lord, the God of all the peoples of the world. Is anything too hard for me?
b. Is there one thing in this world that God is unable to do?
c. When God called me he changed me and is making me like his son
d. When we put our trust in the Lord, He takes people that have no power or status and uses them for His glory, just like He did with Esther. God used her to save His people.
e. I think about the promised Messiah, how for four thousand years it was told that He was coming and Israel waited for Him. Then at the appointed time God send His son to save us. You see the Lord kept His promise. It did seem like it was a long time. Even now as we wait for His return, it also seems like long time.
i. 2 Peter 3:9 (NLT) The Lord isn't really being slow about his promise to return, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to perish, so he is giving more time for everyone to repent.
3. God keeps His promises
a. Psalm 119:49-50 (NLT) Remember your promise to me, for it is my only hope. [50] Your promise revives me; it comforts me in all my troubles.
b. The Psalmist was praying and said to the Lord to remember what he promised
i. It was his hope
ii. It revived him
iii. It comforted him in all his troubles
c. God has given me many promises and He has kept them all.
d. When God tells you something personal, between you and Him, He always brings it to the open at the right time.
e. I think about how Jesus said that he would go to the father and the father would send the Holy Spirit. You see the spirit is also a promise and God kept His promise. Acts 1:4
The ultimate promise is this that He is coming back for us.
John 14:1-3 (NLT)
"Don't be troubled. You trust God, now trust in me. [2] There are many rooms in my Father's home, and I am going to prepare a place for you. If this were not so, I would tell you plainly. [3] When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.
