The second largest city in Cambodia, I sadly didn't take much of a likeing to the place. it was alright, but the market smelled so bad of rotting meat that i could smell it from almost a block down.
The boat ride down was the best part of the trip. I had my ticket and it showed a nice newish looking speed boat. when we got there we saw the speed boat but were quickly directed to a older slower and more hazardest looking boat. Ahh, i knew that this would be an interesting ride. I stupidly took a bike through the temples the night before and had some residual bum pains from the seat, which i was sure was going to get worse on my little boat ride. It was actually really nice ridefrom Siem Reap to Battabong. there were loads of small fishing villages. The people lived on houses on rafts so they were all floating. they got to each others house by canoe. it looked really interesting but i can't imagine living there. It a totally different world. we stopped at a floating restaruant and convienent store. I got to try some of the local food. it was rice and a soup of fish and reeds. it tasted really good. The boat was really unstable, like if someone were to walk across the width of it, it would tip significcantly . there was a point where we tipped so far that i slid across the boat. We also reached a point where we had to go through some bush and for about 30min we were ducking from braches that were swinging acroos the top of the boat.
so over all a very memorable experience.
The whole trip took 7 hours.
Oh i almost forgot my near tragity. I must have repressed it. When i was in malaysia i met a french woman making tea and cup of noodles with this portable kettle thing. pretty much it was the filament of the kettle with a handle attached to it where you put in a metal cup. she bought it in KL and swore by it. So when i was in KL i bought one of my own.
So in Battabong i decieded to give it a try. I asked around about the currant if it was okay, and it seemed fine. i even had a step down or up thinggy attached to my converter. So there i am making a cup of noodles. i thought that the kettle got too hot but who can complain. i finished boiling the water, put the nooldes in and was unplugging teh kettle when BOOM! it exploded in my hand. I felt like Elmer Fud with his gun blowing up in his face. the kettle was blown open with some hot power coming out of it. my bed was covered in it. I was looking at it when it went so i had it in my eyes. My face felt like i had a really bad sun burn and my eyes hurt. I calmly unplugged it from the wall and placed it so it wouldn't start a fire. then i started to wash my eyes in the tap. i still had stuff in my left eye so i made a eye wash by cleaning out my deodernt cap. didn't work, so i found a seringe from my first aid kit and used some bottled water. It worked really well and my eye was finally clean.
close call, it was funny because in Siem Reip i was warned if you are going to get hurt try not to in Cambodia. I would have had to go to Saigon or Bangkok. So lucky me i guess.
