| Frost and Nixon (Watergate) I |
|
I meant to buy a movie soundtrack when I came across this title and bought it under an impulse. Why? I asked myself. Maybe I want to know about something that I had never comprehend fully. The biggest political scandal in the 70s. The most controversial president on American history, among others. From the first half of the interview, Frost was prosecutory and interrogatory, wanting Nixon to 'confess' at his wrongdoing. Frost was determined and forceful by the completeness of the evidence collected against Nixon. Like Frost had said, 'I'm representing American people to demand an apology and truth about the coverups...' There, what I saw was not a president trying to deny his faults. I saw a person who was deeply wounded by his mistakes. But his mistakes were driven by his heart rather by his head. As a democrat myself, I wishfully don't want to look at the bright side of a republican leader, especially after knowing what he'd done to his oppositing party. Yet after listening to Nixon's words, I was convinced he had no choice. Like Frost, I tried to hold my tears and was greatly touched by the humanity of our once great leader, however controversial Nixon had appeared to our justice system. Nixon made closure on the Vietnam war, brought American POWs back to home, improved the bilateral relationships with countries like China, Vietnam, and North Korea. To be Continued tomorrow...
