 Care and Growth
This week I will be traveling out of town to do my very first assist training! I am nervous, but excited...and counting down the days until I meet new like-minded individuals such as myself. I have been toiling many hours over which and what direction to go with my many ventures. I have had to stop everything and turn my focus inward. Bringing everything back to the present moment is sometimes easier said than done. Focussing on my breath, I have begun to complete and finish many tasks ahead of myself.
Taking a moment to be thankful for everything I have been blessed with in my life, I went to lay down to find the space I needed. The question I begin to ask myself is "How"? I hear it running through my everybeing. I had to take the iPod and go for a walk. So much of spring has started to blossom out doors, the air smells clean, I wanted to immerse myself in a bit of traveling yoga. As I walk around the park I am seeing many exciting places to unfold a mat and do a Vinyasa (small sun salutation).
Going outdoors is sometimes the best spot for yoga. Yoga borrows many of its asanas (poses) from what we view outdoors. I find the best sequence contains poses that are seated or standing. The faint sounds of children laughing, dogs walking, people conversing is a perfect symphony to practice to. I read an article in the Yoga Journal in this months issue that spoke of a yoga guru who when he walked upon the grass, it popped right back up, where others who walked managed to pack it into the ground. Take care and honor the earth when we use her, and she will be here for our extensions of our families. The phrase the guru used was that he saw walking on the earth like walking upon his mother's bossom.
When I returned home, there were a slew of specials on the History channel regarding global warming and drought. I can feel that global warming is occuring, I do not realize that drought is happening here in Columbia, but can see it in the media. I ask myself the same question, a bit calmer: how? With each breath we take, in the present moment, we can care for our surroundings by conserving and supporting organizations and services that share our ideals. It all comes back to ourselves and our individuality.
I find I am my best when I have slept enough, done my own yoga, meditation, and eaten healthy. I have enough energy then to give back to others, to do my best in school, and perform with excellence and grace at my tasks at hand.  Before we try to take on challenges this week, I invite all to clear their minds with a meditation to bring new growth to your soul. If focus is unattainable, I suggest getting a cleansing walk in before laying down to meditate. The medtation is called CARE.
Laying down on our backs, let the legs extend and the fingers press into the floor. Begin slowing the breath down as we give ourselves permission to close our eyes. Begin to focus on a winter's tree with it's barren branches. As our breath grows, allow the tree to grow and bloom. Allow the leaves that are turning from bud to full leaf to inspire sunshine in our hearts. Hear the soft sounds in the mind like air, small insects, and rustling leaves. As the tree grows, embrace care in the heart. Feel the intuition of nature to know when and how to regrow all of lifes beauties. Stay with this visualization for as long as you like. Begin to bring it back to the breath by inhaling deeply and exhaling softly. Roll onto your side and slowly close it to the top of wherever you lay. Let your mind then disclose to you the "how____" in your life.
