  • The Job of an Office Medical Assistant

     

    Doing clerical work as an office medical assistant is important to the smooth operation of a doctor’s office.  You will be in charge of the doctor’s schedule and in making appointments for patients.  You will do the billing and coding of insurance forms and will help patients fill out their insurance information. 

    Although answering phone calls does not sound exciting it is vital to the operation of a doctor’s office.  Without medical assistant things would not run smooth at all.  There would be a lot of missed appointments and the office just would not run smoothly.

    Administrative Medical Assistant

    As an office medical assistant you will be expected to perform administrative work as well.  Some of the things that you will do in the administrative position are maintaining financial records, bookkeeping, patient registration, explaining procedures to patients, and maintaining records for items purchased.  As you can see these are all necessary to run a physician’s office or a hospital.

    Clinical Medical Assistant

    The office medical assistant, clinical and clerical medical assistant does well to get along well with people.  You will be dealing with patients who do not feel well, so patience is needed with this job.  Remember to keep the patients’ medical history private.  There is a law that makes this mandatory.  You cannot discuss a patient with anyone other than the doctor or those on the team.
