OK - so I'm finally taking a few moments here...
My Mac has been packed for a month, and I've had but chance encounters with online activity since mid-December. I've just finished the biggest part of moving from near Los Angeles, California to just outside of Aberdeen, Washington - about 1,200 miles!

Some have expressed concerns about the recent flooding near where I've moved to: yes, some nearby rivers were VERY swollen for a few days, but only in the surrounding areas - not where my house/town is. I am safe, and enjoying the change from living in  a gang-infested metropolis to a more rural setting. I'll include photos in an upcoming blog.

The trip up was challenging, not so much because of the 38 hour trip, but because of all of the stunning sights we had to pass by to get here while the weather would permit. We passed by Morrow Bay, CA; Hearst Castle, (we did go through San Francisco, right down that famous pass over all of those hilly up and down roads you see in the movies), the  Ancient Sequoia Giants, Oregon State's beautiful beaches (again; I have a few photos), and we crossed a bridge - the Astoria Bridge on the Oregon/Washington border. 2 lanes wide, 196 feet high over the water at high tide, and four miles long!

The area I live in has an old paper mill for employment, as well as other minor industries. Fishing and lumber used to be big here, but environmental concerns have reduced that activity considerably. The homes are mostly turn of last century, and the entire area is not only volcanic by design but has tsunami evacuation routes all over the place! VERY cold, too. And there are lots and lots of elevation bridges and draw bridges around here.

Pastor Mike, I love your part of the country! Words just can't do Oregon justice.

I'll be back soon, but had a moment during unpacking to FINALLY get to say hi to all of my dear friends - I miss you all terribly, and can't wait to be back amongst you.

John

Caught your comment to bloggit (shmuck!) last nite- was so happy I hadda post- even at midnite! Man, I have missed you SO much- you are a voice of sanity that the site needs right now- things have gotten a bit sorry. lots of good people not posting- lots of bitching and whining- probably a phase- but boy am I glad to hear that calm, wise voice of yours! Knew you'd love the northwest- it really is beautiful. a truly wise governor named Oz West back in 1916 made Oregon's beaches a public Highway- so no acess can be restricted or beach owned privately- man what a blessing that's been! I grew up in places like aberdeen-only smaller- logging towns. they're a little rough on the outside- but the people have hearts of gold. you did know Kurt Cobain grew up in Aberdeen? not that that's a recommendation. So glad you had a good trip and are safe- feel better than I have for days!

Great to here from everybody! Thank you all for being patient with this move thing. I'll be telling you all more stuff about the move, my Thoughts regarding Sydney's passing, etc. very soon. I'd heard that things out here were going through some changes; let me try to instill some normalcy back into life. And yeah; Cobain was a real 'hood-rat' around here, and it seems that everyone here knew him or saw him play - all of the local bars apparently have tributes to the time he came into 'their' bar. His impact on the people here would probably offend him, if I understand Kurt correctly.

It is so wonderful to see a post from you, John. Also comforting to know that you are safe and sound. Can't wait for the pictures. You are really lucky to have journeyed past such beautiful landmarks. It must be so peaceful to have a rural setting. Thank you for the comment right away. Happy unpacking!
