My Mac has been packed for a month, and I've had but chance encounters with online activity since mid-December. I've just finished the biggest part of moving from near Los Angeles, California to just outside of Aberdeen, Washington - about 1,200 miles!
Some have expressed concerns about the recent flooding near where I've moved to: yes, some nearby rivers were VERY swollen for a few days, but only in the surrounding areas - not where my house/town is. I am safe, and enjoying the change from living in a gang-infested metropolis to a more rural setting. I'll include photos in an upcoming blog.
The trip up was challenging, not so much because of the 38 hour trip, but because of all of the stunning sights we had to pass by to get here while the weather would permit. We passed by Morrow Bay, CA; Hearst Castle, (we did go through San Francisco, right down that famous pass over all of those hilly up and down roads you see in the movies), the Ancient Sequoia Giants, Oregon State's beautiful beaches (again; I have a few photos), and we crossed a bridge - the Astoria Bridge on the Oregon/Washington border. 2 lanes wide, 196 feet high over the water at high tide, and four miles long!
The area I live in has an old paper mill for employment, as well as other minor industries. Fishing and lumber used to be big here, but environmental concerns have reduced that activity considerably. The homes are mostly turn of last century, and the entire area is not only volcanic by design but has tsunami evacuation routes all over the place! VERY cold, too. And there are lots and lots of elevation bridges and draw bridges around here.
Pastor Mike, I love your part of the country! Words just can't do Oregon justice.
I'll be back soon, but had a moment during unpacking to FINALLY get to say hi to all of my dear friends - I miss you all terribly, and can't wait to be back amongst you.
John
