 Oh, brother
Part of who and what we are is our family. Today, I'd like to introduce you to my younger brother, Jeff. Jeff and I share a lot in common, and have a lot of big differences.

Wailin'

First, the common. Jeff and I both played in an orchestra, we are both alpha males (which is why we can't be in a band together), we're both computer programmers, and we're both from the last of the hippies. Jeff was voted the Inland Empire's Best Unsigned Musician a few years ago, and to see him in action will simply floor you! He physically takes after our father (tall and thin), while I take after our mom (shorter and heavier). Can you, nonetheless, see the resemblance? We've been thru EVERYTHING together, and I'm as proud of him as any parent would be of a child.

Sangin'

Now, a few differences. Jeff plays to the stylings of Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, etc., etc. I play classical and heavy metal (can you get ANY more opposite?). Jeff plays Fender Strats exclusively - absolutely nothing else in an electric guitar. I prefer the layout of Gibson, and struggle with Fender's location of the high 'E' string relative to the edge of the fretboard (what a crybaby I am!). Physically, Jeff has all of the advantages over me. But intellectually, I rule the roost. And probably the single biggest difference is that Jeff is a lady killer - he walks into a room, and they all get in line. To say that I'm shy with women is a severe understatement. I'm fine until the intimacy begins. I was taught by our mom that no one would ever want me, and that haunts me to this day. She bolstered Jeff's self confidence, and that too shows to this day.

Well, a lil share. My best friend in the world - mess with him, and I'll make your life a living nightmare (as some fools have had to learn already). We may have come from a dysfunctional family, but there's nothing dysfunctional  about our bonds. Keep rockin' Squid! (his nickname)

Good afternoon, Gen! Thanks for reading - Jeff is very special to me, and it is a pleasure to have friends like you know a lil 'bout him. You and a few others here really lavish the positive emotions upon me, and I'm grateful.

Love this blog! Got to meet a family member, excellent! :-) Do you have any other siblings? I have always found [good] heavy metal and classical music to actually be somewhat similar, hence why I love heavy metal so much more than music that is there to simply entertain a crowd. :-)

Yep... gotta sister, too. Maybe she'll be in an upcoming post. I agree with the common elements between the two forms of music. I particularly enjoy neoclassical (Yngwie J. Malmsteen, Tony McAlpine, Vinnie Moore, etc.). Gosh - maybe I can return to training in these genres in a few months here! I actually used to play some Malmsteen, before my hands went to crap. I'd love to here you ticklin' th' keys, Cassie! And I'd also like to hear Barb sing (aliceclaudel). So much fun!! I feel VERY optimistic about the future right now...

That is wonderful. An awesome, talented brother, and some classic rock. Could it possibly get any better? Thank you so much for sharing some of this fraternal bond with us!

Hey, Barb! I was just speaking (look above) to Cassie 'bout how I'd love to hear your singing sometime! Always glad to share with my friends - you all make me feel important and loved.

You really are two old hippies - lol - and very talented ones at that. My brother and I have the Atlantic between us but he comes home about twice a year at least and we have a lot of laughs together. It's great you guys have got each other and a talent to share.

Yes; I look forward to sharing music tracks over the web with him. My old band members and I are currently developing a method of recording songs from multiple locations, like California and Washington. ALL the hippies are old these days, dear!!! And I love being a hippie - open up your mind and let your freak shine through!

Great to meet your bro! Talent didn't fall far from the tree for either of you I can see. Great to be close to you bro isn't it? Good for you John.

Yeah, but it's a nut tree! ;-)
We're close, but not literally. We now live more than 1,200 miles apart, and I miss 'im!

:(

That's OK though - I'm already figuring a way to visit my family in California, maybe in another 6-9 months. Can't be away TOO long... Thanks for the comment, Tony. Hope your day is going GREAT!!! I feel my days are only gonna gert better from here.

cool dude- but as to the differences in music- same Chords- different feel.. I'll bet when bethoven first hit the scene they thought he was heavy metal.. I've always thought a heavy metal version of bethovens 5th would be cool...

Yes!! TSO (Trans Siberian Orchestra) did a hard rock version, but a metal version would be truly over the top!

I am glad that I got to see your brother and what you have written about him reveals your affection for him. You are both so talented.

I am sorry I have not been around that much. I have been too busy at home to come into Thoughts at all but I assure you I have been hoping for the best for you. I pray that your health improves.
