Snowboarding last week didn’t go as well as planned for me. The snow was awesome. The ski park had gotten more than 5 feet of snow since the last time we went. It was a beautiful sunny day. We took my mom with us which made the trip more fun. She doesn’t ski or snowboard, she was just there to watch us. It’s always fun to show off. She was able to watch Ryan in his lessons which made it more fun for him. It also was more convenient for us since we didn’t have to be down the hill at the exact time that his lessons were over. So, about a minute after I started snowboarding I fell hard. I didn’t even have time to catch myself. I was up and then my face was in the snow. I immediately felt pain in my upper arm. I didn’t think I broke it but I wasn’t quite sure either. I sat there on my knees in the snow for awhile and thought about it. I decided it didn’t feel like a pulled muscle either. It plain old hurt all the time. I went ahead and decided to board down the mountain and take a break before I decided if I’d live or not. While the rest of the crew went back up the mountain for a couple more runs I watched Ryan in his lessons and nursed my owie. After lunch I went up the mountain again. When I was most of the way down I hit my arm hard again and decided I was done for the day. I had to work that night so I went to the doctor the next day after I woke up. The back of my arm was WAY swollen. The doctor xrayed my arm and said it wasn’t obviously broken (hairline fractures sometimes don’t show up for 10 days) but that I had a triceps hematoma. He said I may end up bruised from my armpit to my wrist. I’m posting a picture of what it looks like so far. Every day it moves down my arm a little farther. Youch! Luckily everyone else had a ball. I even had fun. I just would have had more fun if I hadn’t gotten hurt.
The weather’s been nice here. Sunny and in the upper 50’s. The kids got to play outside for a long time today. That’s always a treat in the middle of winter. Shelby had her third YMCA basketball game of the season. She’s doing great. She’s small but she’s fast. She goes up against those boys and shows no fear.
Zack and Josh got to go to the new mini Grand Prix track tonight. They said it was a blast. The cars go from 0-45 in three seconds. Wheeee! I can’t wait to try it.
