My quilt I started a few weeks ago is coming along nicely. I have discovered the art of English paper piecing. It makes quilting easier for people like me who are not naturally “crafty.” The quilt I’m making is an old fashioned pattern called Grandma’s Flower Garden. It is made with zillions of hexagons. The nice part about English paper piecing is that you don’t have to cut out each hexagon. I bought a package of paper hexagons

from paperpieces.com and downloaded a free pattern. The pattern told me exactly how much material I needed for each part of the quilt. Then I cut out the material using a rotary cutter which allows me to cut out up to 8 pieces of material at a time.

The material is cut out in squares and then basted onto the hexagon piece.

Then the hexagons are whip stitched together.

Later the basted stitches are removed and the paper gets taken out leaving (hopefully) a beautiful quilt. This really works for me because I can take just the materials for a couple flowers with me in a small bag and work on them wherever I am. I don’t have to drag a whole big quilt around with me. Then when I’m at home I attach the flowers together and work on the edges.

I’ll post updates and photos as I progress.

I am so impressed! It's really beginning to look like a quilt. Good jub! I'm almost ready to try this myself, you know, in my "spare time."
