Walking in the Spirit From the Journal of Norma Johns
Walking in the Spirit creates every day miracles. Here’s how it works. Go to Romans 10, the famous “hearing the word” scripture. We see a man can be saved by believing and confessing the Lord, Jesus. Usually we stop there and have a good sermon on receiving salvation or wholeness. But start again at verse 14. Here is the process God uses to proclaim Himself to mankind. Paul asks the question, “How can the unsaved call upon Him in whom they have not believed?” How can one believe on Him who have not heard and how can they hear without a preacher and how can they preach unless they have been sent? So we as a group of believers began to beseech the Lord of the harvest to send laborers, not just any old laborers but the ones that have been sent. A sent one is a person is one refined by the fire. All the dross and scum has been cleansed from this sent one. He had been on the backside of the desert so long; he thinks this must be home. He has wrestled with God and prevailed. He heard the call, now he is chosen. The method of delivery is as different as we are to one another. The sent one may be the preacher at your church; he may be the youth leader, he might be the writer in a magazine or the song writer and singer of a song. Please don’t overlook what we call secular in our society. It’s not what is the world’s and what is God, it’s all God. The miracles? Let me give you an example in my life. Our last remaining rusty old truck died and without it we could not haul firewood to sell. We took the last of our money and bought a starter kit for the truck. It did not work so we went back to parts store, hat in hand and owner let us get another. All this time we are praying, asking God for help. The new starter wouldn’t work either. So there we sat, no truck and precious little of anything else. The Holy Spirit kept nudging me to get the directions out of the box and start to read aloud. This really angered my mechanic husband but I kept reading stuff that didn’t mean diddley to me. Suddenly he said stop and reread the last part; I did. A big smile came on his face as he connected the proper ground wire in a certain way that was peculiar only to that model of truck. This every day miracle was huge to us as we thanked and praised the Lord and would you believe I have told of this many times and owners of those old trucks come to thank us.
My daughter was 5 years old and scheduled for a tonsillectomy. She was all prepped and settled down for the night. About 10PM her fever went up and shot way up. Uh oh I knew those signs and sure enough her tonsils were coated with a bad case of strep. The surgeon told us to reschedule in 10 days. We did and the procedure to get her ready had been done when the anesthesiologist came to see her, Then she called in the surgeon. Several years before we had Kim’s bad baby teeth capped. It was done in the hospital, at that hospital and that anesthesiologist and she remembered Kim. Kim had been allergic to the anesthetic and they almost lost her and none of the staff and doctors told us about this severe allergy. And, oh yes, the anesthesiologist that remembered Kim? She was on vacation the week before.
I have so many many more everyday miracles, it would take a book to recount them and just maybe God might have that in store for me.
