This may be a really strange blog to post, I just need some new opinons. Recently my Aunt was put into the hospital for an dehydration and some form of unknown infection. These things were causing her to not be able to swallow properly, etc etc. She is morbidly obese diabetic, and by morbidly, I mean she's 4' 11" and 400 pounds, possibly more. She has had 2 forms of cancer and beaten them both leaving her with an ostomy bag, for those of you unsure of what that is, it's a meant to hold human waste and hooked to her through a tube leading directly to her intestines. I had to go to the hospital to check on her, as I am literally the only family within a 2 hour drive of her. She asked me to go to her house to get some supplies for her ostomy bag, and feed her cats. I went, be warned that her house was a mess, but not knowing just what I was walking into. She has 2 cats, the youngest of which is about 11 years, the other two are 17 and 15, they are messy, the youngest one throws up constantly and all over everything, furniture, counters, stove, refridgerator, bed, filing cainets, bookshelves, you name it, if the cat can get on it she leaves a little bit of herself there. The middle one is sick from something we don't know, his hair is falling out in clumps, and he's skinny, barely eating, and then the oldest well...she's just old and decrepid. My aunt is not cleaning up after any of this, there's garbage and papers and clothing piled up everywhere with this stuff on it, this is literally the most disgusting home I have ever been in in my entire life. The cat stuff is all over her bedding and her dishes. Her carpeting and linolium flooring need to be ripped up and probably the floor boards as well. I have heled her clean her house before, but it has never been this bad. I got a phone call from her dad asking me how the house was, and then offering me cash to go clean it for her. I told him no initially, this woman is 50 years old and it's absurd to think that anyone should have to go help her clean something like that, it's absurd to let it get that way! After talking this over with my honey we decided we would do it together, I can't sit by and let her live that way, there are only 2 conditions, the cats leave and she can't be there when we clean it. Everything she has is the most important thing in the world to her, all the way down to a news paper from god knows when and her stationary set she got when she was 13. I tried to call her this afternoon to talk to her, and set up a time to do this, and she won't answer my calls or call me back. Now, I am stuck with trying to make a decision. I can either let it all go and forget that I ever saw that house, or I can call the animal control people and have them go take the cats, and her home would be condemmned. So...I am hoping someone has another idea, because I don't want her to loose everything, she doesn't have to loose her home, it will take a lot of work, but it could be livable again, the cats HAVE to go...there's no way around that. So....if y'all have any ideas...I would love to hear them!!
