It would have been a totally "blah" day had it not been for this incident at the water cooler:
There was just one other person there and the moment I got near him, he went "Hi N!" like we were friends or something. I had never seen him before in my life so I just smiled politely.
He must've thought he had got it wrong because he asked, "You're N, right?"
I nodded then added as an afterthought, "And you're..?"
To my surprise, he just bent down to get more water and said kind of mysteriously, "That's your problem. Everybody knows your name but you don't know mine."
I was like, What?!
He went on, "I got your name from inbound."
"Oh you're from inbound!" (I'm an outbound sales agent, inbound people act as customer service reps).
"No, I'm Outbound", he replied as he moved away from the cooler so I could take my turn,
"but I got your name from Inbound [agents]."
"But I don't know anybody in Inbound."
He smiled at that and said, "Everybody knows your name because of how you look." When I started to object to this, he said something that completely threw me off base: "You just don't want to accept it. You're the victim of your own beauty."
Omigosh. The whole encounter was so unexpected and he was such a mysterious little man that I went back to my station feeling like I had dreamed the whole thing up. It was like I had been to a "manghuhula" (fortuneteller) and had been foretold a great future but I wasn't quite sure whether to believe it. I thanked him anyway. :p
But it really lifted the day out of the ordinary for me. It might not b a big thing to others but for me it's stuff like this that makes me want to keep going, like there might just be something nice around the corner.
Migs also gave me a good line via text message but I'd heard it before (from him!).
I didn't get a sale today so I really needed those positive words. Thank you very much guys!:D
