I guess I kind of knew this weekend was going to be a dud because the moment I got off work I felt kind of sad and lost... so I rented DVDs and brought home palabok (kind of a seafood pasta dish with orangey shrimp sauce) and chicharon (crunchy pork skin)- the ultimate comfort food for Pinoys, in my opinion.
For Sunday breakfast, my dad and I had rice, bacon, eggs, vegetable salad and ripe mangoes... washed down with coffee. Yum.
Then I had Sunday lunch at Gilligan's with my cousin, K. Her treat: Seafood pasta (Italian style with white sauce) and fish fillet with mayo dip. She had a Shirley Temple drink while I had hot calamansi for my throat. Double yum!
After hours of shopping (window shopping for me- I couldn't find anything with K being her usual critical self), we sat down for designer coffee and doughnuts, my treat this time. She said she was on diet but she had two- dark chocolate and honey glazed! Plus her coffee had milk and sugar. I was kind enough not to point this out, but she always has to open her mouth with what she sees as my shortcomings. I guess she's just being helpful..? But she has to work on being positive, she's getting a rep for being a B- and she knows it!
The thing is, even her older brother has told her that she needs to tone it down a bit but she's still not doing anything about it. And some guy who used to have this thing for her is now posting lots of messages in an online forum about how she'd apparently been nasty to him and who does she think she is...
But she's family. She does have her good points sometimes, especially when she's not opening her mouth. It's tough because she doesn't know when she's being too mean. She knows she's being a B but she expects people to have thicker skin than that. Small doses of her is all I can take, so when she said she was tired I encouraged her to go home and I continued my shopping in peace.
That was after we went to the grocery. Lots of comfort food again. As of this moment, I'm crunching my way through pork sisig-flavored chips and sunflower seeds. I also bought a DVD copy of Gossip Girls, season one. Kind of pathetic, I know.
My dad and his friends are drinking out front. I'm trying to stay out of their way, so that means no dinner. I'm not that hungry anyway...
