TAMPA, Florida (Reuters) - Brian Griese will start at
quarterback for Tampa Bay next Sunday against his former club
the Chicago Bears after leading the Buccaneers to a win over
Atlanta, head coach Jon Gruden said on Monday.
Griese, 33, played for Chicago in the last two seasons
before rejoining Tampa Bay. He replaced Jeff Garcia as the
Buccaneers' starting quarterback after they lost to New Orleans
24-20 in their season opener on September 7.
Against Atlanta on Sunday, Griese completed 18 passes in 31
attempts for 160 yards and one touchdown with no interceptions
in a 24-9 victory.
Tampa Bay rushed for 164 yards and two touchdowns while the
defense intercepted Atlanta rookie quarterback Matt Ryan twice.
"He managed (Griese) the game," Gruden told reporters. "I
think he'll get better and better."
Garcia was the Buccaneers' starting quarterback last season
with they won the National Football Conference South Division
title.
He missed almost all the pre-season training and practice
games with injuries and did not look sharp against New Orleans.
