Dodgers beat Giants to stay two ahead in NL West
2009-09-12 06:55:46

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - The Los Angeles Dodgers maintained a two-game lead in the National League West division after roaring to a 10-3 road victory over the San Francisco Giants on Friday.

James Loney and Casey Blake tallied three RBIs apiece, while pitcher Hiroki Kuroda threw eight strong innings as the Dodgers (84-58) kept ahead of the charging Colorado Rockies in the tight divisional race.

In his second start since being struck by a line drive and sustaining a concussion on Aug 15, Kuroda struck out five and retired 19 straight San Francisco batters from the second to the eighth inning.

Giants starter Matt Cain was relieved after six innings and Los Angeles broke the game open with five scores in the seventh against relievers Merkin Valdez and Bob Howry.

Following the loss, San Francisco (76-65) fell 5 games behind the Rockies in the NL wild card race.
