NEW YORK (Reuters) - Cincinnati Reds manager Dusty Baker
has been suspended for two games and fined an undisclosed
amount by Major League Baseball (MLB) for inappropriate actions
during Thursday's game against San Diego Padres.
Baker's suspension is scheduled to begin on Friday when the
Reds continue their series against the Padres, the MLB said in
a statement.
Baker made contact with umpire Eric Cooper during a dispute
in the seventh inning of Cincinnati's 8-2 defeat by San Diego.
After Edwin Encarnacion was ejected by Cooper for arguing
over a called third strike, Baker came out on to the field to
protest before also being ejected.
New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi and San Diego hitting
coach Wally Joyner were also sanctioned by the MLB on Friday
following recent arguments with umpires.
Girardi was suspended for one game for kicking dirt on
umpire Chris Guccione in the bottom of the ninth inning in
Thursday's 2-1 win over the Baltimore Orioles.
Joyner also received a one-game suspension for coming on to
the field to argue during the bottom of the sixth inning of
Wednesday's 11-3 loss to St. Louis Cardinals.
Both Girardi and Joyner were also fined undisclosed
amounts.
