NEW YORK (Reuters) - Cleveland Indians pitcher Fausto
Carmona was suspended for six games and Detroit Tigers slugger
Gary Sheffield for four for their roles in a bench-clearing
brawl, Major League Baseball said on Monday.
The fight occurred during the seventh inning of the
Indians' 6-5 victory in Cleveland on Friday.
Carmona first hit Sheffield with a pitch and the Detroit
designated hitter glared at the pitcher while he walked to
first.
Following a pick-off attempt by Carmona, Sheffield charged
the mound, triggering the brawl. Both benches emptied and
pitchers from both bullpens joined the fray.
Victor Martinez and Asdrubal Cabrera, both of the Indians,
each received three-game suspensions and undisclosed fines for
"aggressive actions," baseball's vice president of on-field
operations Bob Watson said in a statement.
