2009-07-01 03:36:31

CALGARY (Reuters) - Defenseman Jay Bouwmeester has signed a multi-year deal with the Calgary Flames, the NHL team said on Tuesday.

"Jay is one of the most complete defenseman in the game, and we are very pleased to have reached an agreement that will make him an important component of the Calgary Flames success," Flames General Manager Darryl Sutter said in a statement on the team's website (flames.nhl.com).

Bouwmeester was acquired from the Florida Panthers in exchange for defenseman Jordan Leopold and a pick in the NHL entry draft. He had 15 goals and 27 assists last season with Florida.
