Blink-182 postpones gigs after death of friend DJ AM

"Blink-182 band members Delonge, Barker and Hoppus arrive at party to launch their summer tour at El Compadre Restaurant in Los Angeles"
2009-09-02 05:23:59

LOS ANGELES (Reuters Life!) - U.S. band Blink-182 has pulled out of gigs scheduled for the next few days following the death of the group's friend, disc jockey DJ AM, who was found dead in his New York apartment last Friday.

DJ AM, the stage name of Adam Goldstein, and Blink-182's drummer Travis Barker were the only survivors of a private plane crash in September last year in which four people died.

The band pulled out of a gig in Saratoga, New York, on Monday and said on its website on Tuesday that it would reschedule shows set for this week "for Travis Barker to mourn the loss of his dear friend Adam Goldstein."

The band said it would resume its current tour on September 4 in Kansas City.

Barker and Goldstein, who did a live DJ and drum performance together, had been playing in Columbia, South Carolina, before boarding the plane that crashed while taking off. Both were hospitalized in a critical condition with serious burns.

Police have said no foul play was suspected in the death of 36-year-old Goldstein and media reports said he was found with prescription pill bottles near his body.

Goldstein's music could be heard on albums by Madonna and Will Smith and he socialized with Hollywood celebrities, at one time dating reality TV star Nicole Richie, to whom he was engaged, and also going out with actress Mandy Moore.
