Today was the 10th anniversary of Wellington’s famous museum, Te Papa. The whale exhibit, whales tohora, was free on this given day as well. They had a huge whale fossils and models, and displays of how the whale developed over the years. The sperm whale was on display, was a skeleton, 59ft long. They also had a whale’s heart which was about the size of a “bug” the car. And it ways up to 1420 lbs!!! There was an excellent orchestra playing and the place was just packed. There was also a bunch of city celebrations going on, something similar to their arts festival, but more musical and for the surrounding islands. Each island had booths representing their food, jewelry and other arts. There were tribal dances. It rained most of the day which sucked but it was still nice. There was also a chalk activity. Buckets of chalk lying out and people drew all over or wrote messages.
