it amazes me how people are so desperate to peg you into some tidy stereotype for which they have some stock response that they will completely ignore what you actually say so as to hear what they need for their response to work. 
here's the deal:  your cliched, folksy wisdom is bullshit.  it doesn't apply.  if you paid attention rather than trying to show how "wise" and helpful you are you would recognize what should be so plainly apparent.

here's some words of wisdom, some friendly advice:  don't give advice to people who haven't asked for it, and don't assume that your generic, cartoony catch-phrases will make anything better.  if your advice is so general that it can apply to anyone, then it probably applies to no one.
