| Oh, SO grounded! |

Oh sweet jesus it's just happening too fast.
My best friend, Kathy, was over last night, and asked if our son went to the school dance last week. Her daughter, B, went and she and B. have had a huge fight since then.
Apparently, when someone asked B. to dance, she took off and hid. Kathy told her that that was kind of immature, and proceeded in lecturing her about "how hard it is for the guy to sum up the courage and risk rejection ....." and "you don't necessarily have to let him touch you when slow dancing if you are not comfortable ....."
Well, B. turned to her and said, "Mom, they don't really dance like you guys and your ballroom stuff. They 'grind'."
GRIND???
*My* son was at this dance... and he did say he danced. Fast and slow dancing... with girls...
But, but I showed him the 'proper' way to dance. You know, hands on hip and shoulder, moving side to side...
GRINDING????? Isn't that touching everything with everything *but* the hands? Isn't that what frat boys and rap stars do? Not *MY* son!! He told me on the weekend he was thinking of looking for a job at a bookstore. He's a 'good boy'!
So, she leaves and of course I casually charge up the stairs.
"Hon, when you were at the dance did you dance?"
"Uh, yeah."
"Fast or slow"
"Both"
"Umm, is slow dancing called 'grinding'?"
Rolling of the eyes... "No, Mom, that's fast dancing".
My very mature response?
"oh, ok. that's gross." And I left the room.
I seriously better visit the drug store. This kind of thing is immoral and leads to drugs and premarital sex. Right? Maybe even guns... (just KIDDING!)
I'm just creeped out. Laughing on the inside, horrified, shocked and grossed out all at the same time. These kids are, like, fourteen!
Like my girlfried, I feel so naive. And I am NEVER offering to dance with him again. Should I say something? Thank god they keep their clothes on. At least, I HOPE they keep their clothes on.
It's just happening way to fast. And last week my daughter told me she can't wait to go to high school cuz there are 'lots of cute boys'.
Why, when *I* was that age... oh, never mind. That even scares me more. Should I be worried?? Hubby said not to be, but kind of be. So that is a great relief.
At least now I know kind of what is going on. That's good, right?
I've got to be turning grey.
