Not on My Watch! that's a very formidable saying. Its is usually communicated with a strong voice to let everyone understand, that if, "If I have anything say in this, you aren't going to do that, while I'm in control". Its hard to believe that this saying hasn't been extended to both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. Not from someone who is in charge, but from a voter's prospective.
We ardent political voters who partake in this activity come rain or shine have a belief that we are in control (I think) and say "not on my watch" which stimulates our participation rather than adopting the feeling of civil duty or exercising our right to vote. If more people felt that voting was a civil duty our nation would undoubtedly select better elected officials.
I know that my blogs appear to be written with my nose in the air, and my self-righteousness of "know it all", but its really written with my nose in the air with an informed, knowledgable position that makes be the know most of it all. I love my country, I'd die for my country and I support my country, whether we get off on the wrong foot or wrong war or what have you. There really is no better country to live in than America, but our country is not without its faults.
While I'm sure there will be some sexist and racial comments to stop either of these two from making office I don't think that a vast population takes on that despicable old ignorant mentality. What I do believe, is that the uniqueness of this year's campaign will be unique because of the amount of participation because of their participation from its citizens. Think about it, until yesterday the Democratic party had a caucasian woman, black man and Mexican-American man running. Sen. Robert Byrd isn't dead yet, but I'm certain he's not the foremost ambassador of acceptance for what he's witnessing.
If it takes an individual to take on the "not on my watch " mentality just to get out of their norm and participate in the worlds most greatest right ever, then I will rejoice that at least we have a greater participation than usual. When things in our lives (like politics) take place and we can do nothing to control it, always remember that we do have the power of voting to make change. And regardless of why people participate, the increase of involvement on what happens in our country, is just as important today as it was when Civil rights for Blacks/African Americans were ever acknowledged.
