What ever happened to the respect of one's point of view or simply agree to disagree if you couldn't find common ground? Equally, what ever happened to story books like Huckaberry Finn or Tom Sawyer? I'll tell you what happened; today's generation of people want to progressive capture new revolations and no longer relic the pasts.
One of life's most succesfull pasts were when people respected one another. They may not have liked the person's personal prospective on things, but they were decent enough to show some common curtousy and respect to them. Our schools have moved away from something as good and as common as "Physcial Education", to now the "Non Active Ignorance" which helps fuel and feed into this national obesity problem that we have. Gone are the days when kids would run out next to their friends during school breaks and play all day where you'd have to call for them to come home for supper.
Was our nation's past completely all that bad? Did getting rid of this part of our culture really help us as a people. How many times have you witnessed a lady approaching a dinner table, that the men would stand in her presence until she sat down or dismissed them from standing? Better yet, how many women go out of their way to kill chilvary by getting offended when respect is rendered to them?
In my eyes if you don't stand, you're no gentleman and if you're offended because someone displays chilvary, you certainly are no lady! Have we lost our way? The only thing certain is that we are constantly changing.
If you are wondering why usually I have a political entry when I blog or why this isn't my usual political blog, just keep reading. This ties back into the mantra of accepting change but most importantly the vote for the hope of change. We need an ambassador of change that evidence of his being, is different.
There are some Democratic voters in Michigan who wanted to be heard of Mike Huckabee supporters. Positively speaking, one can consider that a good thing. Looking from another prospective, these supporters are African American and they are leaning away from their base where they could be part of history and supporting the opposition. Now this doesn't automatically hurt Sen. Obama because it could hurt Sen. Clinton as well. Why don't they embrace Sen. Obama and discuss what his intentions are should he get into the White House?
The change that we all should be looking for, is the return of respect to our neighbors and the common two practices of agree to disagree if you don't see someone else's point of view. And secondly and almost like human nature, or as many people testify to, "my momma always said, if you don't have anything good to say, don't say nothing at all". There used to be a time when those were words to live by. Isn't it about time that we demand change?
I'll admit, that today's post is all over the map, different points, multiple depictions of our past and future, but the one thing that they all point to, is the thought provocation of change. Do you believe that you author your destiny, or destiny is the walking path that you must choose? I disagree the we all don't agree that we will all welcome change. |
