  Holding open doors.
Do you think it is EXCESSIVE to hold open a door for a Lady or to pull out a chair for her?  Ladies, do you appreciate the guys that do those things for you?

hold the door open indeed. Offer her a chair on the bus and be polite to her.

I used to hate it, but the older I grow...the more I appreciate kindness and respect from men. However, I'm still very independent.

Old fashioned??? Thats what your supposed to do. Men are suppose to serve the womans needs and be polite and show nothing but kindness and sincerity towards them. I hate how so many ppl are disrespectful to woman. If I ever knew a man who hit a woman Id beat him with a kane stick. The kind motions talked about in the post are just the tip of everyday things that you should always practice. I know I would appreciate it. Todays society filled with those of my generation, a generation filled with corrupt fags who couldnt care less for anyone else and listen to that awful crack head/ ass clapping music. They think they are cool but they just look primative and uncivilized. Im scared to see how our country/world will be when my generation is in control. (btw im 18 but have no ties with those that are corrupt, neglegent, and disrespectful... fortunately I was raised better)

Randomness, you seem a bit whipped:P I wouldnt hit a woman either...til she crossed "the line". It's the old "you wouldn't hit a guy wearing glasses" bit. If a woman does wrong enough to make you that mad, alls fair. Equality. If a woman can kick a man in the groin, so can a man to her. Just as Batman can kick Catwoman's butt when he needs to:P
Im all for respecting/pampering women within reason...but some things just seem excessive or not fit for some people.
Posted by brainstormer on 2008-04-24 23:34:18
Not excessive at all. I am a man who treats women with these respects, and will hold a door for another man if the situation calls for it. It looks like by the responses here, most are for it. Brainstormer, you sound like your looking for someone to fight.

I'm old fashioned, but I really think it is polite for anyone to hold a door open. If you are talking specifically male to female, I think it is nice when a guy will hold a door open for me if I'm on a date. I don't really dig pulling the chair out at the table though. Or opening my car door for me. I do like it if it's raining and he quick unlocks my door first(if he doesn't have automatic locks...most guys I date don't...heh) so I don't get super soaked. Then comes the first date test for the girl of leaning over and unlocking his door so he doesn't have to fumble for his keys in the rain. I think chivalry goes both ways. Females need to practice it too. If a guy wants to hold a door open for me, I'll take it!

Yes it's a nice thing, part of common courtesy, like giving up a seat for a pregnant lady on public transport. I think the major issue is if people use the chivalry thing to mean women somehow are not worthy of being listened to but it's daft to conflate the two. Oh and I'd hold a door open for a guy too.

I hold the door for everyone who is coming up to the door behind me. Hubby pulls my chair out for me in restaurants, and I do appreciate him, mucho!

I don't know what's right, here; but I open doors for women, and pull out chairs for them, too, and, unless it's a situation that would make it ridiculous to do so, I stand when a woman enters the room, too.
