| My first intro to the world of money -- Work!

As a child the only thing I knew about money was that we never had any. Any time I did earn a little bit from babysitting, I wasn't allowed to save it. I was told things like I had to go buy a pair of shoes with it. That meant a pair of $3 shoes to replace the ones I was currently wearing. The one pair of shoes I did have usually had holes in them at the toes, & the soles were usually coming off & making an awful flapping noise. Pity is not what I'm after, so I won't go any further into that. The point is that money was not a part of my life.
At 18 yrs old, however, things changed. I graduated high school & started working & putting myself through college. The entire world opened up. Among many things, the world of money is what fascinated me the most. I felt absolutely rich! I could buy what I needed. One thing I was really good at was distinguishing between what I needed & what I wanted. Eating out was pretty much a sin to me. During that first year I ate out only once, and that was because a group of friends practically forced me to. While everyone else ordered a meal, all I could bring myself to order was a tiny $1 coleslaw side dish. It took about 3 years for me to actually buy a new peice of clothing. But, I felt rich!
Not knowing what to do with the money I made, I put it in a savings account until I had enough money to buy an old car. This allowed me to work even more. In the summers I found out how to work pretty much 24 hours a day. From 1pm to 5pm, I worked in an office & from 6pm to noon the next day I worked in home health care. I was able to nap, get up the next day & do it all over again. On Saturday I didn't have the office job, so I'd schedule one or two housecleaning jobs for myself. During the school year, I would go to school from 7:50 am to noon, work in the office from 1pm to 5pm & work in home health care from 6 pm to 7am the next morning. Most of my studying was done at the home health care jobs. I'd run into the library before rushing off to work and check out the books I needed or copy the material if the books weren't allowed to leave the library. Then I'd hire someone to type my papers. The one thing I missed during this time of my life was socialization. But, I was learning a lot about money.
I had just learned the #1 rule of money...get a job....and maybe two or three of them.
