Oooookay, I've decided to reboot Veks Syndrome. The idea was cool, but poorly executed earlier. So, I'm going to take another crack at it, including a preface or introduction. The reason for that is Veks Syndrome was very VERY hard to explain using a character talking to Veks himself. So....here we go, I suppose?
In the year 3410 Humanity is under the control of the few. Democracy is unheard of. There is only the state. The name of the current Human state is Eurika. Named after the famous saying of Aristotle. What they thought they had discovered was peace.
The world is one of controlled information and fear. Humans do all the higher end jobs. Corporate CEO, programmers, police, politics. However, menial labour is left to clones. The problem is, when someone meets one of their clones, there is a chance that it will drive both the host and the clone insane. This is known as Hyper-sensory Optical Syndrome, or Hysop. When a human being opicaly views a clone face to face, the brain picks up on the clones brain waves, which are the same as the host. This confuses the mind and causes an overload and shutdown. There is no cure for this.
Becase of this, clones, considered less than alive, are force to wear heavy, leaden suits day in and day out, this prevents the brain pattern from being recognized by the host brain.
Like every other government, it has dessenters, known as Rats. Rats are hackers that congregate in groups. These are called Rats Nests. The Government has expanded its services to include soldiers that are enhanced and trained to hunt, kill and erase Rats Nests and the anti-Eurika Propaganda that they produce.
A man by the name of Kaeden Veks is one such Hunter. However, Veks has a part of his life hidden from everyone, including himself. He has a syndrome, known as Veks Syndrome. This "disease" enables him to interact with his clones with no reprecussions. The Government doesn't like this, as it eliminates a method of control from his clones. And so, every night he is taken, studied and then resubmitted into societey with no recolection of the nights events.
The goal? Reproduce Veks Syndrome in the human race, or eliminating it all together, thus maintaining control. Andt his is where our story begins, with Veks, preparing for a routine hunt.
