Kelnas runnbed his hands through his long hair, and tied it back out of his face as he poured over the missive the servent had just brought him. Sealed in a blue wax with Gelden's signet, Kelnas had immediately broke it open and began to read. And what he saw he could hardly believe.
My apprentice,
As you have no doubt come to know I am no longer in Stormwind. Simply put I have returned to Silvermoon City. There is new information regarding the Scourge and Prince Arthas. Apparently, the Scourge Army has been seen moving north, they have already taken Andorhal, and Stratholme of course, and our scouts report they are making for Quel'Thalas.
As such, I have been asked to return home to help defend the city from the Scourge. We fear they are after the Sunwell, the most powerful source of magic on Azeroth, as you well know. I have been met by King Anasterian Sunstrider and Lady Sylvanas Windrunner, Ranger General of Silvermoon. We are co-ordinating efforts as we speak.
I apologize for my abrupt leavings, but we, the Elves, will stand alone against this threat. My King fears the Alliance will help us as much as they did in the Second War. Though, I think that is a great deal there are several others who disagree with myself and Lady Sylvanas.
I hereby make you a full Mage and Wizard. You need no more training from a master, and are now prepared to deal with the world and reasearch on your own as needs be. I would ask one small favor, as one mage to another.
The king's son, Kael'Thas Sunstrider is going to help defend Dalaran, and I am requesting that you go to his aid. You will not be anything as extravagent as second in command, my very young mage, but you are powerful. And you will be of great use to the Kirin Tor.
I leave you with one piece of advice. Mind your elders and your betters. All the Magi there have been using their craft longer than you've been walking, young magling.
And please, try not to embarass me either. You disappointed me the other day during your final test. Yes, that was your final test. But, I had nothing left to teach you. Apparently, control is something you will have to learn on your own.
Al diel shala,
Gelden Highsun.
There was a long, thin package included in the letter. Opening it, there was a small black shaft, with a white handle and red gem at the top. Attached to it was another small note from Gelden.
This is the Heartfire. An Elven wand of great power. It belongs to my clan. I have always told you that my name is Highsun. It is not. My family name is Heartfire. I didn't tell you, or anyone else, beacuse humans, as a rule, tend to fuss over the nobility. If I had let on that I was, you're learning would have taken much longer. The shaft was carved by dwarves for my family hundreds of years ago. The gem is solidifed dragonsblood. It holds great power. The power of fire. I hear the Scourge mislike that.
After reading the missive, Kelnas had packed all his wordly belongings, few though they were, and teleported to Dalaran. Upon arriving, he showed the letter as a matter of credence and was welcomed as a citizen of Dalaran. He was then ushered into a large room, where many other mages sat, watching a dias. On the dias was Kael'Thas Sunstrider, his blonde hair contrasting with his glowing blue eyes and purple robes.
Kelnas, unlike the other magi who had removed their staves, simply adjusted the magical sword on his belt, and sat down. He preferred the sword over a stave incase things got close in. Between the blade and the Orb of Fire that the Reagent of Stormwind had given him, his powers were just as formidable as a mage who drew on
a stave for extra power.
"My Breatheren," Kael began "As you know, Captial City has fallen to the might of the Scourge. Even now, the former Prince Arthas, now a Death Knight in service to the Scourge, marches on Quel'Thalas. Reports indicate he is heading for the Sunwell."
The Magi in the room gasped, all except Kelnas who knew this already. He settled back, crossed his arms and let the Magister of the Kirin Tor continue.
"We have been asked to start mounting a defence. Already the Undead have turned to start on Silverpine Forest. Already they approach Pyrewood Village and Shadowfang Keep."
Now Kelnas sat up a little straighter. If the Scourge were of a mind to attack Shadowfang Keep, they were either stupid, or more powerful than the Magi had originaly expected.
"They are a powerful foe," Kale continued. "More powerful than we had originally anticipated. The result is the destruction of Lordaeron, and the continued spread of this Plague of Undeath. We must work together to hold them. To stop them from overrunning us. You will be lead by Master Krasus. I will be returning to Lordaeron to be of help where I can. Good luck, all of you. Anar'alah Belore."
As they stood to leave, Kelnas found himself wish vaguely that they had their own Anduin Lothar for this war. Perhaps Arthas could have been that. But, he reflected, as theh raven once crowed; "Nevermore."
