Mystery Man A STORY (I will always be with you)
“David!…DAVID? Are you listening to me?….David? What are you doing?” the woman stood looking down at the man, sitting cross-legged on the rug, eyes closed, slowly becoming clenched as if his concentration was slowly being drained by the voice of this insistent woman,
“David!” she put her hand on his shoulder and shook him
“for goodness sake woman, cant you see I’m in the middle of something here” he looked up at her with pleading eyes, like man who had been trying to sleep for 30 hours being disturbed over and over again by the sound of a clock ticking “please love, can’t you just leave me be for a little while?”
“why?” she demanded “what are you doing?” she sounded like a mother who had just found her child cutting all the hair off its favourite Barbie, not the full grown, almost 7ft tall man sitting before her.
“I am trying to meditate love, you have seen me do this many times, why do you choose to pretend you don’t understand or realise how important this is to me?” again he looked pleadingly at her, but this time there was a hint of sadness and defeat in his voice too..
“I don’t have any idea what you are talking about David, now please just pick yourself up off the floor and stop this silly nonsense” arms folded, she stood and waited about three seconds before she grabbed his arm and tried to pull him to his feet
“For heavens sake woman, I can get up by myself” he picked himself up and stood for a moment looking almost puzzled at the woman in front of him before he spoke again
“Do you really have no idea what I was doing? I mean, I try to meditate every day…? For nearly six months now?….really?” part of him was so saddened that she clearly had no knowledge or even a slight interest in him, but also he was a little glad, he had hoped that they would grow apart for a while, since she had turned into the bitch from hell, obviously her way of dealing with the guilt of her affair, (the affair she thought he didn’t know about), he hated confrontation and prayed that she wouldn’t up and leave, he prayed that one day they would have a civilised conversation and come to realise their relationship was over, in a friendly manner, part as friends with her never having to own up to the on-going affair and they could just start over, no stress or resentment, just a new beginning, but her moods were getting worse everyday, she seemed to treat him more like a child as the weeks went by, more like something she had trodden in on the street, he was realising that his hopes of a friendly split were becoming more ridiculous every time he thought about it, but at least he had found a escape of his own, but he wasn’t going to tell her about it, he really did believe that what he was doing was innocent and that there was nothing at all wrong with it, she would laugh, I think a lot of people would laugh, no one ever had to know anyway, but then there was a part of him that thought he might be dabbling in something that may hurt him, not necessarily physically, but emotionally, he wasn’t even sure that he truly believed what was happening to him, and what about….
“DAVID!” he was snapped out of his thoughts “what the hell is wrong with you? “
David walked away, ‘ok’ he thought ‘if she’s going to treat me like a child maybe I will act like one’ he stormed out of the room, ran up the stairs two at a time, and as she started to follow him she heard the bathroom door slam shut, as she reached the door she heard the click of the lock, rolling her eyes in the back of her head she leant against the bathroom door, “David, for gods sake, what is wrong with you?” there was silence “Are you going to talk to me?” she asked impatiently, “No? well then I guess there is no point in me staying here is there” kicking the door she stormed back downstairs, grabbed her bag and her keys, David listened for the slam of the front door, then the screech of tyres as she drove off down the street.
About an hour later David realised that she wouldn’t be home that night, she quite often used an argument as an excuse to stay out for the night with ‘him’, David didn’t seem to care anymore, he got the place to himself, some peace and quiet, exactly what he needed for his ‘meditation’ well that’s what he liked to call it anyway, some might say that he just fell asleep and dreamed, some people may actually believe that he had the ability to control what he did in his dreams, he wasn’t sure personally what the reason was for what happened when he closed his eyes, but he knew that whatever it was had become very important to him, not an obsession, perhaps an escape, but what ever the hell it was it made him happy, and he liked to think that he wasn’t the only one he was pleasing, he may think that he had mastered the ability to find a specific person in his dreams, but as yet he couldn’t control what happened, he just went along with wherever he and the other person were, and had the responsibility of trying to explain to concerned parties what was happening, without giving away too much, or letting on that he wasn’t himself completely sure what it all meant, he knew one thing though, recently he hadn’t been able to ‘meditate’ as often as he’d like, every night would be perfect, but he used to be happy with once a week, but now it seemed, for some reason, the dreams were only coming every few weeks, and he missed her, he laughed to himself when he described her in his thoughts as his ‘dream woman’ at first he thought he must have seen this woman somewhere and that she was just there in his dreams, at first she was part of the background of his usual dreams, but then one night, it seemed as if she were trying to talk to him, he tried to get near her, but with every step closer she seemed to drift further away, the dreams then continued most nights, he would see her and she him, he would try to reach her, she seemed so sad, and he felt this longing for her that he couldn’t explain, until one night, they fought through the crowds of manic people, and the spoke, well she did, “Is this your dream or mine?” she asked him, she looked awfully lost, and he sensed that she needed him to be strong, “I think this is both our dreams Marie” he had said, in a very soft, comforting voice, while inside his head he was puzzled as to how he knew her name. they sat down on some old stone steps, he wanted to ask her so much, she looked at him, obviously needing answers, but he didn’t want to spoil it and say for the most part he was as lost as she, but it was then he decided that as soon as morning came he would scan the internet for answers, while deep down praying that he would have the chance to give them to her. But for this dream, slowly they drifted away from each other, neither saying a word, both with a look of needing and want in their sad eyes.
For weeks he trawled the net, looking for answers, he discovered ‘dream jumping’ Astral projection’ and a supposed meeting place called the ‘Nexus’ where friends could meet in dreams and go there separate ways, none of it made much sense to him, the best advice he could find was a simple meditation ritual, lighting white candles, imagining the white light protecting him, focussing on the place he wanted to see, the person, and if he happened upon any of his guides or gatekeepers they might be able to point him in the right direction, when he found that he could actually take what he originally considered to be nonsense seriously he made the oddest discovery, that little voice that had bugged him since childhood, the niggling feeling he got about choices and moments, the voice he thought he had imagined, he found a face, an actual, almost physical form that the voice belonged to, at first he was terrified, snapped himself out of the trance he was in, blew out his candles, and turned the TV on and up, but later he had realised that he was being silly, and that he should give it a chance, this person or whatever It was, was obviously a guide of some sort, maybe there would be some answers for him.
Trial and error eventually lead to the next encounter with the guide, there wasn’t much talk as such, when David saw or even felt the guides presence he just knew the answer to the pressing questions, and suddenly he would be there, standing in the dark, watching Marie fumble around, until she found him, standing in the dark, his heart would miss a beat, he would be almost speechless, but then when he did speak, he found he had no real control over what he said, she would beg for reassurance, he was convinced that she thought she was going insane, much like he felt he would if he couldn’t hold her, wipe her tears away, give her the answers she needed, one thing he knew was that she had to figure things out, like he was trying to, and he felt bad telling her, that she would work it out soon, and that she mustn’t worry, he had let her see his tears once, he feared she might think he had no control, he was just desperate to tell her everything she needed to know, he wanted things to be right, to find out what they were to each other, find out if she was real, or was he just dreaming after all, if he was, he thought that he may not be able to go on, he knew there was something important that he had to tell her, or show her, or who knows, he hoped that it would be soon, but he feared the truth, he feared that maybe all he was to her was a guide himself, sent to help her with some important life decision, and that after he had achieved his mission, she would be gone, and he might never see her again, but when he told her that they would be together, he felt it was one of those things that he was guided to say, so he started to believe that it was true.
Waking up the next morning he was saddened, no dreams, no Marie, he wondered if she thought about him while she was awake, he wondered if she missed him, and yet again he wondered if he was mad and that maybe she wasn’t even real. For the first few months, he looked at every woman he saw in the street, convinced he would see her, she would rush over to him, and, well he had no idea what she might say, he had no idea what he would say, although he had rehearsed over and over what might happen if they ever found each other in the cold light of day, but for some reason, he could never fit a script to the scene.
As he climbed out of bed, he pulled back the curtains, and saw her car, there was no sign of her though, and there was frost on the windscreen, ’that’s odd’ he though ’did she come home late last night? ’ considering what may have happened, he got to the top of the stairs and called out to her, there was no reply, as he took the first step, he thought he heard something behind him, he turned to look over his shoulder, as he did, he felt hands on his back, as he began to fall and twist he saw her face….her smiling face, and she gave a little wave, as he reached the bottom step, he heard a loud crack,a flash of white light, and that was that.

When he opened his eyes, he felt no pain, but where was he?, he knew he had gone, he felt the freedom of a worriless world, his shoulders felt light, and he felt happy, looking around he realised he was in a strange house, in a strange bathroom, he heard footsteps so, calmly stood back in the shadows, the candlelight made it easy to hide, as he saw her walk into the room, remove her robe and step cautiously into the freshly run bathwater……………

I thought it might be interesting to write a story as if the mystery man was a real person, and what his destiny was or is...

WOW.
You really pulled it out of the bag with this one marie.
It was well worth the wait, he he.
I really like this idea of where "David" comes from.
Maybe you should think of writing a whole book about this.
I would definitely buy the first copy, and the second, third , fourth, fit.................................................... ...........etc etc.
This is just an amazing story from an amazing writer. ******************************************************* ******************************************************* ******************************************************* ******************************************************* ******************************************************* ******************************************************* ******************************************************* *** and there are more stars where they came from.xx
