Stubbing her cigarette out in the already overflowing ashtray, she looked up from her typing, reading back the words to herself, shaking her head, looking annoyed, she hit the delete button, three or four times harder each time ,until she just held it down and watched the words disappear, letter by letter, ‘right’ she thought to herself ‘a cup of tea will clear my mind’ so getting up from her chair, she petted the dogs and walked into the kitchen.
After flicking on the kettle, she opened up the back door, took a small step out into the winter chill, took a deep breath, then, taking a cigarette from her pocket, she lit it up with her clipper, and leant against the wall, lost in thought for a few moments until the ‘click’ of the kettle snapped her out of it.
As she dropped the tea spoon into the sink, she started thinking about her dreams and her fantasies, and wondering why she can’t write them down as beautifully as they appeared in her head, her mind was filled with so many wondrous things, and she wanted to share them but every time she tried to write, she could see the words in front of her, and they were never good enough, everything that she had ever read in her life had taken her to the place in the story, that was, after all, what words were for, a portal, so to speak, into someone else’s imagination, someone elses memories, but she just couldn’t do it, she had tried and tried, but to no avail.
Maybe she was trying to hard, perhaps she wasn’t cut out to be a writer, whatever the answer was, and she was not ready to give up yet.
Sitting back down at her desk, she closed her eyes for a moment, remembering the last dream, it was nearly two weeks since she had dreampt about her mystery man so she struggled to remember every detail, walking herself through, step by step, until the pictures were fresh in her mind once more, opening her eyes she lifted her fingers to the keyboard, she began to write.
“There he was, bold as brass, standing not three feet away from me, smiling softly, he asked, “have you missed me?” holding his hand out, obviously wanting me to place mine in his, I whispered
“Why have you not visited for so long? It has been nearly two weeks since you last came to me” I knew I sounded like a desperate lover, I could hear my own wanting in my voice, as usual I made myself blush,
Words disappeared from the screen in a fit of annoyance, “ I can’t do it, I just cant, what the hell is wrong with me?” she stood up so quickly , the chair almost fell backwards, her anger, fairly controllable, allowed her to catch it before it hit the floor.
Upstairs, she decided to run a bath, making sure the water was piping hot, she scattered in a couple of handfuls’ of salts and a small squirt of bubble bath, and left it to run, walking into her bedroom she flopped down on to her bed, almost in a fit of despair, she rolled onto her back, one leg straight up as she tried to unlace her favourite long black boots, the laces at the top were easy enough, but she nearly fell off the bed trying to un knot the lower ones,
When she finally had them off, she threw them in the bottom of the wardrobe as she took out her luxury towel robe, when she had undressed she wrapped it round herself and headed back to the bathroom, praying that the bath was ready, it was, the first smile of the day appeared on her face, it didn’t last long when she realised she had left her mug of tea downstairs, ‘fuck it’ she thought, ‘ I wont be in here that long, I’ll make another’
As she carefully climbed into the bath tub, the hot water on her legs instantly seemed to take a little of the stress away, as she sat down and felt the water roll over her skin she let out a sigh, leaning back so the bubbles covered her up to her shoulders, resting her head, she slowly started to relax, thoughts leaving her mind as she slipped lower into the deep, warm water…..
…………she was disturbed from her near slumber, when she thought she heard something, the candles she had lit were flickering, from an unknown draught, so the light was lower than when she closed her eyes, realising that the water had cooled she shivered, then she saw a hand reaching for the hot tap, she sat up suddenly in a panic, making the water splash onto the floor in a wave, she heard a soft voice say “ shhh don’t worry, its me, I can’t let you sleep in a cold bath can I”
Realising she must have fallen asleep in the bath and that this was another dream, she settled back down, allowing the piping hot water spread from her toes slowly up to her thighs and bottom, as the water became hotter and hotter, she began to feel almost aroused at the presence of her mystery man, being very aware of her nakedness she could feel herself blushing….all over, the hot water, like warm hands stroking her legs, slowly flowing all over her body, between her legs, gently creeping over breasts, she became very aware that she was close to losing control, then she heard the water stop running into the tub….”why have you turned it off?” she knew she was panting slightly
“The floor” he said softly “look at it” he pointed towards the ground
Peering over the edge of the bath, she realised that the water was flowing over the sides, wave after wave of uncontrollable soapy water “I didn’t have the heart to stop, I saw how much you were enjoying yourself and how relaxed you had become for the first time in about two weeks” he smiled, took her face in his right hand, “now maybe I will see more of you” he nodded knowingly, and walked slowly out of the room.
Sitting bolt upright, she climbed out of the tub, rushed to the door and looked out, he was no where, then she realised, she turned around back into the bathroom, looking down she saw, there was no water on the floor, realising she was very wet and also naked, she reached for her robe, wrapped it around her shoulders, then leaning over to the bath, she plunged her hand into the water to pull out the plug, being very aware that the water was stone cold, looking at the clock on the wall, she also realised that she must have been asleep for nearly an hour.

This is excellent writing, Miss Marie. A gifted writer draws the reader into their world and you did exactly that. I felt the warm bath water as I read your post.
As writers we all experience times when the words will not appear as we would like them to. There are so many writers I'm in awe of. I know I shouldn't, but I fall into the trap of comparing myself to them. We need to realize that each writer has their own unique style. No one style is better than another.
Let your words flow in the way your heart and soul feel comfortable with. That way you will make yourself happy. When we are true to the spirit that lives inside of us it's impossible to disappoint anyone. Work (whether it's art, a photograph or a written piece) that pours forth from a contented, peaceful soul is admired and loved by everyone it touches. Peace.

You let me right inside of your mind.
That is the signature of a beautiful writer.
You have a way with that mystery man.
He sets you on fire.
Waters of freedom of mind wash over you when you speak of him.
Your mind is beautiful, you have mastered, the art of letting us see the world as you do.
Excellent my friend.
Simply Excellent.
