 REALLY!?!?
I wrote yesterday about my little dog dying suddenly and not really knowing what happened to her.  I found out after wards that my friends little girl had squeezed her and then dropped her, the day before.  I don't know if that's why she died or if something else was wrong, but I talked to my friend about it and he said that it was possible that she got hurt when she was dropped.  I probably should have been told that when it happened, but surely I know it was an accident.  The little girl is only 4 years old and she loved Little One.

Then this afternoon this friend called me and asked me to go over his house and pick up his cat to take it to the vet's for neutering.  The vet was running a deal on the procedure, but only until 4:00 this afternoon.  No mention of what happened to my dog, no apology for letting his daughter pick the dog up and squeeze it, then drop it.

I know it was an accident, I know the little girl didn't mean to hurt my dog, but does this guy think I would want to go to the vet's with his cat and sit there with all the other animals, the day after my dog died?  I mean, I would have liked to have the opportunity to take my little dog to the vet, but he never told me that she might have gotten hurt, or that she was dropped at all.

Maybe I'm just really upset because of what happened, but it seems a little insensitive and selfish to me.  Am I wrong, or is this guy so completely self-centered that he doesn't give one thought to how I might be feeling right now?   Is this guy really a friend?

Well he does sound selfish hun...I know i would be devastated if someone did that to any of my animals...He either is stupid to not realise your hurting right now or he just doesn't care about your feeling either way id say not a great friend if he doesnt know your feelings and thoughts...Jx

An appology would have been nice, Sorry for you loss. A dog is a member of the family unit after all. They do depend upon us just like children do.

Oh how terrible! It would almost have been better had he not mentioned
it as it would have saved you the heartache and questions. I feel you
have a right to be upset and you might want to explain it to him as you
did here. He is either an idiot, insensitive or completely thoughtless.
For his sake, it would be best to tell him of his 'oversight'. I am so
sorry for your loss. Losing a pet is so painful.

Thank you all for you very kind comments. I am having a hard time with this and his behavior isn't helping. I think I will take the advice to say something to him, but I think I need to be a little calmer than I feel right now.

The friend should have apologized for his daughter and said something to the affect of "if you want me to do anything for you concerning burial, or expenses for anything you might want"....along those lines. I know it wasn't the little girls fault, but had that been my daughter, I would have still felt so guilty had it been myself squeezing you're dog and dropping him.

Offering to do something FOR you would of been the way to go, then had you had said "no its fine but thank you for offering" or something like that. To say nothing and ask you to bring the cat to the vet was done in poor class, in my opinion..but that's just me.

Thank you guys! I'm really upset and I don't want to approach him with anger, so I haven't said anything yet. I don't understand why he would ask me to take his cat to the vet the very next day, as if nothing had happened and it helps me to know that others see it the same way. I don't exactly trust my feelings right now, so I wasn't sure if I was over-reacting to what I saw as callous behavior from him.

Also, I had asked him several times not to let his daughter pick up the dog because she was so small and the kids don't realize that they were hurting her when they would hug her. I'm angry that he wasn't watching what was going on. It's as if, once he comes in the door, it suddenly becomes my responsibility to watch what his child is doing. Thanks again, I really needed some unbiased opinions to make sure I wasn't just wanting to blame, because I'm so sad about Little One.

I just find it hard to believe he asked you to go to the vet's office, even if his family WASN"T responsible. I would imagine it would be too painful for you to spend time in that office for awhile. Hugs and thoughts are coming your way.

Thanks for the hugs!! I'm a little calmer this morning , so I think I'll call him and talk to him about how upset I was that he asked me to do that.

He's a total inconsiderate douce face and you should tell him that. No scream it in his face and make sure a little spittle sprays him.

Ok maybe you don't need to go to that extreme (if you do, record it - k? K), but he is being totally inconsiderate, not only by not apologizing for your Little One's death but to then ask you to go spend the entire day in a vets office for his cat?! Uh no sir re bob, that aint gonna happen.

Better yet, the longer I sit here and think about this the angrier I get for you. So if you want me to call him a cockface complete with spittle spray, let me know.

Wait, let me stop laughing... Ok, yeah maybe I will let you do that. I was so pissed at him, but thought maybe I was being unreasonable, just too emotional about my dog, so I didn't say anything to him. I didn't take the cat, though.

So far, no one thinks I'm being unreasonable, they all think he's a dickhead!

Thanks for validating my anger, and I also get madder the more I think about it. Maybe I will spray him!!

You totally should. If you want to make an extra impact, I suggest you spray him with food. I did it yesterday to someone but it was on accident so I know it's possible.

Just an FYI Twizzlers make excellent little spittle sprayers. Jus' sayin

I tried to find some yesterday but apparently someone is eating their weight in Twizzlers!! Yes, I remember your comment! HAHAHA!

Damn... you are not supposed to remember comments like that.

You're supposed to ONLY remember the comments about how fantastic everyone thinks I really am. Sheesh.

I laugh so much at what you guys say that my husband asks what the "girls had to say today" when he comes home. He thinks you guys are hysterical!!
Posted by  missingchristopher  on 2009-11-05 09:18:42

My husband doesn't think I'm the slightest bit funny.

My son even knows you guys by name, and when he comes over I have to get on and read the things you all have written. He laughs like hell!
Both my son and husband have a great sense of humor and sometimes I think one of the reasons we've been married so long is that we do laugh at everything. All 3 of us have the same sort of sick wit and a lot of times I'll start to say something funny but I'm laughing so hard, I can't get it out, but my son will be laughing and finish it because he knows where I was going with it. I think you're hysterical!

This is turning into a blog, but the other reason I know they both like me being on here is that they don't have to walk in and see me crying anymore about Christopher. I still miss him but talking on here with you guys has finally made me laugh after all this time. They really just didn't want me to be sooo sad all the time, and I'm not anymore. Thanks Guys!!

I am so sorry about your dog. Some people don't understand that pets are family members, and that their loss or mishandling is agonizingly painful.

That's true, but he was just here again and asked me to take his cat to the vet on Tues, now! Think I need to re-evaluate some of my friends! HA!
