 Are you a racist?
I was sitting in the car at the gas station the other night and this older white lady comesĀ
walking out. Just got off her shift. I could tell she was country. Skinny with some tight
cheap jeans that come up real high. Bleach blond fried thin hair. She lights up a cigarette
as she walks to her car and I can't help but think of her and the billions of other people
I share this earth with and how what different lives we all lead. I wonder if she is one of
those many racist rednecks that want immigrants like me to go back to my country or of she
is just as cool as me. It's amazing how many different cultures exist and how each one is
so different from the next. But what really irks me is the ignorance of those who are un-
willing to learn and engage in people who are different from theirselves or the people
around them. Where did racism come from and why is it still so prevelant today? Why would
anyone not want to experience everything there is? I don't get it. Why must we be labeled?
White? Black? Hispanic? Asian? Is there any such thing anymore? With all of the multiracial
couples today, who is really 100% anything. I suppose it will never end this racism. It
seems to give others power. Who's more racist? You or me? Blacks or whites? Hispanics or
Arabs? Can hispanics really be racist? They are so many colors you can't choose one. And
the stereotyping is unreal. Too funny. All mexicans don't eat Taco's just like Mohammed from
bodega is not a terrorist. People say they are not racist, but everyone has a little bit
inside. Me personally, I am not racist - I hate everyone!

I think it falls into a comfort zone with people. Now my mom jokes tht i have dated pretty much all of the UN which is true to some point. But when I choose a place to live I look for schools and neighborhoods that are "lighter". The older man I take care of is black but he looks for the same thing in his community. But when I look at my neighboors I have the redneck, the middle eastern family, a black family a few doors down. I think there is rasicm in all people to a degree whether the know it or not. Most of them dont even mean for it to be there just ignorance that was taught to us as children from our parents that got it from their and so on. ANd your right with all the inter racial relationships no one is 100% anything and honestly we NEVER were.

I think the worst kind of racism is when it's within a race. I am an african american woman, and of course, black people really aren't black at all. We come in all different shades, from yellow to red to brown and everything in between. But, for some reason, a lot of the men I've dated have commented that they prefer to date women who are only my shade and lighter. I happen to be a light caramel, if I must say. Does it make me happy to hear this... of course. So in other words, yea, we can all be a bit racist.

hi missbitter!
i agree too - we all can have those thoughts - i think we just have a tendancy to be more comfortable with people that are 'similar' to us in whatever sense. i don't hate everyone - but i can be pretty damn indifferent!
:o)
cheers!

I think we all have a little bit of racism in us.
Albeit my racism comes with stupid people. To me that's a race - they all look stupid, talk stupid and are stupid.
LOL

America is made up of immigrants. Our ancesters are from all walks of life. It's funny that now we say who is and is not an immigrant. If I had to go back to my ancesters country they would have to tear me apart and send me all over the world. LOL. I was raised in the military and have lived in many different counties. I grew up learning to appriciate other culturs. Yes there is such thing as black, white, brown, red , yellow, etc. These are not curse words. They can be exciting and fun to learn from and experience. I've learned so much from poeple all over the world and I'm gratful for all my experiences. I hope to do the same for my children some how. So I'm saying embrace who you are and share what you have learned. Those who don't appreciate it are missing out.
