Netday resolved to bring computer education in sch

Year: 1995

NetDay was a brainchild of John Cage, a dream to solve the bizzare situation of computer’s infrastructure of schools in California.

Over the course of one week, two schools were prioritized to be brought under the dedicated connection of broadband. It would involve healthy participation of volunteers from a group of people belonging to various professional back grounds like parents, teachers, army mens, business men’s.Spending the entire day in burrowing holes and pulling the wires for setting a useful base for a network connection.

The four connection sites were nominated in schools :

1) Library

2) Staff Room

3) Common Room

4) Principal’s Office

This mission attracted a lot excitement from the inhabitants of California State.Amid all this, there were a few who were bellantly rueing the idea behind the Netday, since the schools at that time were lacking in providing the basic resources like clean drinking water, mid day meal and a library with useful books for their students . Citing all these basic flaws in the education system, there was a mild feeling of disagreement regarding the access to internet in schools.

But the propetuers of Netday stood firm on their ground by indicating that a large part of funding was sourced from private sector to revamp the school library and create a technology hub in schools. So , there would be no spill ways from the already allocated budget from the Government’s treasury.

Presently, there are 5.00.000 volunteers who have wired nearly 1.000 classrooms in United States.

After few years in to the inception of NEtday Mission in US, the same concept was replicated in thirty other countries with a dream to provide easily accesible computer education for every children.
