| Simple Things I'm Doing to Bring Joy Into My Life |
|
1. Catching glimpses of the cottontail bunny who has been sneaking into my yard to nibble on the seed that falls from the bird feeder.
2. Buying fresh flowers to display in my favorite vase. I especially love to see red carnations in my blue and white Chinese landscape vase. Recently, I've realized that I associate flowers in the home with abundance, but I never allowed myself to buy them because I felt I couldn't afford them. But now I feel I can, and they give me joy every time I look at them.
3. Rediscovering my T'ai Chi Chih video by Don Fiore --- and being lucky enough to have a video player to play it on.
4. Resurrecting a fun novel I was writing in the '90s . . . and stumbling upon a great idea for a screenplay that I've had bookmarked for several years.
5. Planning a writing retreat next Spring at a gorgeous place near the Appalachians in Virginia.
6. Letting my business bank account finally buy me something I've been wanting for about a year: a copy of Jennifer Louden's The Life Organizer. The tag line on the front cover of the book is "Tips, Stories & Prompts to Focus Your Needs & Navigate Your Dreams."
7. Starting my "Life Planner" based on Jennifer's method. I've chosen a spiral-bound artist's sketchbook in which to create my planner. I use colored markers to create beautiful titles and fun sketches and doodles, with the occasional sticker from my kid's sticker books to express a particular mood. This is not like creating another goal sheet or To-Do list; this is about a flow of inspiration, asking yourself meaningful questions, and then dreaming your ideal life onto the paper --- devoid of "shoulds" and Obligation Overload.
8. I'm slowly working my way through a wonderful book called Ask and It Is Given. To quote a gem from my coffee-time session this morning:
"In the same way that sculptors mold clay into the creation that pleases them, you create by molding Energy. You mold it through your power of focus --- by thinking about things, remembering things, and imagining things. You focus the Energy when you speak, when you write, when you listen, when you are silent, when you remember, and when you imagine --- you focus it through the projection of thought."
9. Laughing at goofy stuff:
"I want my children to have all the things I couldn't afford. Then I want to move in with them." --- Phyllis Diller
"I have decided never to write again but to devote the rest of my life to fighting for the rights and freedom of Subject lines all over the globe."
--- cheeky comment from one of my coaching clients (Writers' Muse Coaching Service) when I challenged him about sending all his e-mails with blank Subject lines
10. Discovering a piece of wisdom as I worked in my Life Planner yesterday:
HEARTFELT CHOICES Making choices from the myriad options clamoring at me is an act of power and grace! I choose what feels good to me and what I have comfortable time and space for.
