your needs
your wants
what you have
what you use
what you buy
who can offer you the most
these are the thoughts an average american has on the day to day basis
it's become difficult to even imagine looking beyonds these basis of thought
go to class
go to work
make good grades
get a raise
slip in a social event when time permits
these are the actions we find ourselves restricted to
it consumes us
mind, body and soul
things that have always been constants in our lives. things that have been there for us when all else in the world is in chaos. these things are important, and yet these things are ignored.
would you like an example?
picture your car or bike or shoes
you know it inside and out
you know where it is at this very moment
you remember how much you paid for it
you can probably form a perfect imageĀ of it in your head
you would be very upset if it disappeared or was damaged
and one day, you will discard it.
now picture a tree or bush near where you live
something you look at or walk past almost every day
how tall is it?
what shape are it's leaves?
what color is it's bark?
how long has it been there?
is it healthy?
have you ever actualy looked at it?
of course not.
not since you where 8 years old when all forms of life held wonder for you.
but i don't think losing your wonder is a part of growing up. i think it's something that is beaten out of us. if a consumer can be happy with something they didn't sacrifice time or money for, then they are simplistic idiots who are of no importance.
but who's more of an idiot?
somebody who takes joy in a tree?
or somebody who refuses to?
